I know I've been gone for a while, but I'm back now, and I've got something to say.
As you all know, GT7 was announced for the PS5, and although I've never played GT Sport (I've only played GT5 and 6, with 6 being my favorite), there is something from that game that I really hope is in GT7: the Livery Editor.
Gran Turismo has never really allowed players to fully customize and paint their cars. That's not to say there aren't any customization options, it's just the ones we have are VERY limited. You can only add aero kits, rear wings, driving number stickers, or paint the entire body, brake calipers, wheels, and rear wings. And you can't even do that to some cars. Customization is the only thing that Gran Turismo doesn't beat all other racing games at.
These problems (or at least the paint related ones) were fixed in GT Sport with the Livery Editor, a feature that allowed players to make custom designs for their cars by adding shapes, logos, windshield banners, and other designs to almost any area of the car in multiple different colors. You can use the stock shapes and logos or go online to download other people's decals. It also offers a wide variety of tools that make customization a breeze. You can copy the design from one side of the car onto the other, scale and rotate the decals, and use brush feature to paint directly onto the car. It allowed you to create your own racing machine.
However, there was one HUGE problem: the game it was stuck on. In case you don't know, I hate GT Sport. Even though it's a spinoff, the lack of cars and tracks is inexcusable. And the cars and tracks it cut were series staples. So obviously, stranding this amazing car editor on this pathetic excuse for a GT game was, to put it lightly, a horrible idea.
But now that they've announced GT7, I have hope that they'll bring the Livery Editor back and include more than 2 cars. It would be so amazing to be able to customize cars like the Suzuki Cappuccino or the Light Car Company Rocket. So those are my only 2 requests for GT7: bring back the Livery Editor and have a car list that doesn't make me vomit and laugh.
I'm probably not qualified to talk about this game (because I've never played it) but I'm going to. This is, in my opinion, the WORST GT game. Here's why.
The Amount of Cars
The amount of cars in this game is inexcusable. 335 cars is pathetic when compared to other games. The only GT games it has more cars than are GT1 and GT3. GT2 has roughly twice the amount of cars (if you round down to the hundreds, it's 300 vs. 600). The last GT game, GT6, had 1,245 cars, which is roughly 4 times more than GT Sport's! I would understand (not like, understand) the abysmal amount of cars if all of them had detailed interiors, but some of them don't (I don't know how many), which is ridiculous. Plus, so many famous cars that have been staples of the series are missing, like the Suzuki Escudo.
2. Tracks
GT Sport has 60 tracks in total, including alternate layouts. This isn't a bad amount of tracks. In fact, it's actually a pretty good amount. However, just like the cars, so many series staples are missing. Tracks like SSR5, 7, 11, Autumn Ring, Silverstone, Cape Ring, High Speed Ring, Eiger Nordwand, Matterhorn, Trial Mountain, and so many more are missing from the list. Some tracks that aren't series staples but are outstanding tracks that should've been included are also missing, such as Circuito de la Sierra, Complex String, New York, Cote d'Azur, Nurburgring GP/D, and Goodwood Hillclimb.
4. Driving UI
The diving UI for GT1-3 was pretty basic, with your position in the race, a lap counter, a timer for your current lap, your times for each lap, your best lap, a speedometer, a map of the track, your current gear, a couple little extras, and bold orange text. GT4 changed it up quite a bit, making everything smaller and less in the way, adding a chart indicating what directions you were steering in and a chart indicating when the gas and brakes were on and how much they were being used, moving everything car-related to the bottom corners of the screen and everything race related to the top corners, adding a couple more little extras like 3 symbols indicating things such as E-brake and headlight being on, and putting everything in a slick new font with more race-related colors. GT5 only made a few changes, but they made a big difference. It moved the speedometer and gas/brake chart to the bottom left corner, added a tire wear/car damage indicator and fuel gauge to the bottom left, moved your current gear, steering chart, and E-brake/headlight indicator to the bottom right, moved everything in the two bottom corners into separate boxes, upgraded your position indicator to show how many opponents were in the race and took the text out of a box, and added a chart to the left side of the screen showing your opponent's names or car names (depending on what you choose). GT6 (which, in my opinion, has the best driving UI) made even less changes to the UI, changing the color of the text in the position indicator to yellow text in a black box, replaced the boxes that separated the car-related things with a smooth, fading outline, and added a clock and weather indicator underneath the lap counter and position indicator that told you what time it was on the track you're racing on. GT Sport looked at what the these games did and, instead of improving on them even more, it threw it out the window. It took the good-looking font and replaced it with this thin techno font that just doesn't fit the series for the car-related things and the current lap timer and a basic thin calibri font that's really basic and boring, compacted everything in the bottom corners into the middle of the bottom, combined the gas/brake chart and put it above the speedometer and current gear indicator, added this weird fixed-to-car map in the bottom right corner that is separate from the main map, moved the map to the right of the screen, shrunk the lap times and put it underneath the map, moved your total time to the very bottom left corner, and removed the clock and weather indicator. GT Sport does not have a good UI.
3. Music
Music isn't nearly as important a factor when talking about a GT game as cars, tracks, or UI, but I'm going to talk about it anyway. I'll be comparing this game's soundtrack to GT6's and a little bit of GT5's. Also, this part will be based purely on my opinion. So, to start, this game has 7 Makoto songs. That's not bad, but the ones they selected are defiantly not the best ones. They included both Black Mist and Flying Easy. If you're only gonna have 7 Makoto songs, don't include both of those. Choose one. And they forgot the best Makoto song, Rising. So, remove Black Mist or Flying Easy and add Rising. There are also a ton of other great songs that aren't in this game, like Horizon Seekers, SURV1V3, Fort Greene Bossa, Express Way, Be At Home, Check, Maelstrom, From The East To The West, Xth Avenue, Bevel Gearing, Casino Drive, Amber Moment, One Blue Spaceshore, Exercise, Sunset Breeze, and Aurora.
