In-game description[]
"The 2013 machine of Carl Edwards, the car that gave him his comeback victory after 70 races."
Carl Edwards is the ace of Roush Fenway Racing, the works team of Ford, and his debut was nothing short of spectacular. His full participation in the top tiers of NASCAR started in 2005, and he enjoyed his first victory early on in the 4th round at Atlanta. However he had also been victorious in the Busch Series the previous day, which established a new record for having won both series races on the same weekend. He became known for holding back and saving his tires when necessary, and charging like mad when there is a chance. From his first year of participation Edwards had already established his formula for victory.
He did particularly well in 2008, achieving 9 wins in the series, which is a quarter of the races in the season, but NASCAR is a tough competition, where even that will not make you champion. In the end he achieved 2nd place overall, while chasing down Jimmie Johnson, going for his 3rd consecutive win, right down to the very end of the season. He did a respectable job as the Ace driver of Ford.
In the following year of 2009, the slowness of the machine did him in, with no victories at all. Still, in 2010 he won 2 races and 4th overall, and in 2011 he only had 1 win but went up to 2nd in the rankings. He was stable through the season in steadily gaining points, but he fell into another slump in 2012, ultimately losing his spot in the Chase.
This emergency prompted a change of the crew chief they had worked with for years. And in 2013, Edwards won the 2nd round at Phoenix again after going 70 races without a win. He showed his trademark back flip and continued to stay at the top of the rankings this season.
Carl Edwards, the tough competitor with both stability and guile, was the eye of the storm through 2013.
