The 2022 Gran Turismo World Series is the fifth season of the Gran Turismo World Series, and the first season held in Gran Turismo 7 and under the GTWS name.
The online season was held in two seasons, from May 27 to July 2, 2022, which determines participation for the Showdown, and from August 12 to October 1, 2022, which determines participation for the World Finals. Three pre-recorded races were also held in addition to the two live events, in a transition from a largely online-only format in 2020 and 2021 as effects of and travel restrictions relating to COVID-19 began to loosen up globally. These pre-recorded races were later dropped for subsequent years.
Coque López won the Nations Cup in a controversial three-way last-lap collision for the title in the final lap of the World Finals Grand Finals race, while Subaru won their second Manufacturers Cup title (as well the first across games and cars used) in a wet-weather thriller against Toyota.
This season marked the first year for Brembo and Genesis as official GTWS partners.
The online season took place from May 27 to July 2 for Season 1 (with Manufacturers races on Fridays and Nations races on Saturdays) and August 12 to October 1 for Season 2 (with Nations races on Fridays and Manufacturers races on Saturdays). For Manufacturers Cup, a rule is in effect where players may not switch manufacturers between Season 1 and Season 2. As result, only players who did not participate in season 1 of Manufacturers Cup could represent Suzuki when it joined the Manufacturers Cup following the addition of SUZUKI Vision Gran Turismo (Gr.3 Version) in version 1.17 (released June 23, 2022).
↑This event was unannounced until the 26th of May, when the Suzuki VGT was added to the game.

↑ 5.05.1These events were unannounced until the 26th of August, when the additional layouts for Catalunya (used for round 4) were added to the game. It is unknown why round 6's announcement was also delayed until this date.
Live and Broadcasted Events[]
Two live events and three pre-recoded races featuring top GTWS stars (to determine the point rankings) were held throughout the year.
New to the 2022 season is a player-level engagement to those events, by introduction of Predict the Winner Bonus Campaign. For correctly predicting a winner of each race from the game, the player can earn credits in form of tickets. The World Finals also saw the debut of Viewers Gift campaign, which required the player to answer correctly questions that were tied to the outcome of the event to earn in-game prizes such as tickets and cars; subsequent Viewers Gift campaigns would only require the player to watch the event from the game.
First GTWS live event since 2020. Miyazono was part of the Subaru team, but missed the Showdown due to an illness, later revealed to be positive test for COVID-19 during the Manufacturers stream.
In each of these standings, the top 12 manufacturers advance to the live events, with Season 1 top 12 advancing to the Showdown and the Season 2 top 12 to the World Finals. In event any of the partner manufacturers (Toyota, Mazda, or Genesis) fell out of top 12, they would have replaced the lowest ranked non-sponsor manufacturer.
For both seasons, the best half of the season counted towards the championship - best three races for season 1 and best four races for season 2.
