2 Player Battle, called Party Play in Gran Turismo 6, is a mode that allows split-screen gameplay against other players on the same console, with multiple controllers. This feature is present in all main Gran Turismo titles, except in Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, and in GTPSP (where it was replaced by Wi-Fi based multiplayer).
Gameplay[]

Memory Card Battle car selection in GT1.
In most games, 2 Player Battle is accessed as part of the game's arcade mode, except in GT7 where it is part of the multiplayer menu that also includes online lobbies. Provided courtesy cars or cars from the player's garage (only through Memory Card Battle in GT1; only for cars marked as favorites in GT7) may be used.
In GT1, split-screen racing using cars from the garage is part of the Go Race menu, called Memory Card Battle. The mode is designed to be used with two memory cards, although one card could also be used by moving the first memory card to the second slot (or vice versa) after the first player's data has been loaded. (The game's manual discourages removing memory cards when Memory Card Battles are played, however the game does not consistently access the memory card after a data has been loaded.) Later games (GT2 to GT4) allow cars from another player's save data to be loaded from the Arcade Mode instead, through the Load Guest Garage option in GT2 and GT3, or by selecting "2" (to load save data from data in the second memory card slot) when selecting a car in GT4.
In the first three games, two-player races may optionally have tire wear enabled (as well as mechanical damage in GT2). These are set in the game's respective options menu.
Starting from the Spec II update, the PlayStation 5 version of GT7 increases the maximum number of players in split-screen races to four.
Restrictions[]
Depending on the game, several restrictions may apply in the split-screen mode:
- General: Available camera views may differ from what is available in single-player. In general, cockpit view is not available for games that have it. Additionally, track visual quality may be reduced for performance reasons.
- GT1: Reverse courses and Test Course are not available (in Memory Card Battle).
- GT2: Reverse courses are not available, except for Pikes Peak Downhill. Motor Sports Land, Test Course, and Tahiti Maze are also not available, although Autumn Ring Mini is available.
- GT3: Cote d'Azur and the wet versions of Special Stage Route 5 are not available. However, Complex String is available.
- GT4: Autumn Ring, Grand Canyon, New York, Chamonix, George V Paris, Special Stage Route 5, the wet version of Tsukuba Circuit, and El Capitan as well as Cathedral Rocks Trail I and II tracks are not available. Additionally, "special" cars cannot be used. (Autumn Ring, New York, Special Stage Route 5, and El Capitan are available in Tourist Trophy's two-player mode, however.)
- TT: Only racing motorcycles are available, with player 1 using #1 and player 2 using #2 on their bike (except if a 2005 Suzuka 8 Hours bike is used).
- GT5: The Ferrari F2007 and Ferrari F10 are not available to use.
- GT7: Until the Spec II update, player 2's driver aids cannot be adjusted. (The 1.42 update also fixes an issue where boost handicap favors the first player at all times.)
