In-game description[]

This description is taken from the NTSC-U version of Gran Turismo 2:

The first major revisions to the NSX came in 1997. Although it looked no different outside, there were significant upgrades to and underneath its aluminum skin. Countering the slight weight increase due to the use of a larger, more powerful engine and a six-speed gearbox in place of the original five-speed, much of the 1997 NSX's skin was made from thinner but stronger aluminum alloy. The result was a weight increase of less than five lbs, with 20 more horsepower. It was even quicker and faster than the original NSX, with no loss of drivability.

The new engine, while still an aluminum alloy V6, displaced 3.2 liters instead of 3.0. It used the VTEC variable valve timing and lift system, and made 290 hp at 7100 rpm, up from 270, with 224 lb-ft of torque at 5500 rpm, up from 210. Titanium connecting rods could still be found inside, joined by innovative fiber-reinforced metal (FRM) cylinder liners and other internal redesigns. A close-ratio six-speed gearbox took advantage of the increased horsepower and helped improve acceleration even more.

As previously, the post-1997 NSX was offered with the "SportShlft" four-speed automatic transmission that featured manual shifting via steering column-mounted paddles. Automatic-equipped NSXes used the earlier 3.0-liter engine. Both drivetrains were available with coupe or NSX-T form with a removable roof panel. All versions had larger brake discs.

The 3.2 liter NSX was and is a fully-featured grand touring car with all of the comforts expected in such. The lightweight, high-performance versions offered in some markets were not available in the Acura version. But, for 1999, a limited-production Alex Zanardi Edition was offered. It featured exclusive interior and exterior trim, and a competition-spec suspension.

This description is taken from the NTSC-U version of the original Gran Turismo:

When Acura came out with a new 3.2 liter engine and 6-speed manual transmission in 1997, the sports model Type S was added to the line-up. Also, Type S Zero, with enhanced sportiness and more emphasis on circuit driving, was added. The Type S had managed to remove approximately[1] 45 kg from the standard NSX, but the Type S Zero went even further, stripping away a staggering 96 kg.

With these changes, the NSX became an easier car to turn compared to previous incarnations, especially with the Type S Zero. The suspension was given added rigidity at the rear and slightly softened at the front, resulting in secure communication between car and road surface, and a more neutral handling.

These alterations changed the car's looks far more radically than the previous generation had done, and resulted in a car that requires a certain amount of skillful driving. Genuine sports cars choose their own drivers.
