"An alluring 4-seater coupé, featuring a large sky window offering additional spaciousness."
When Alfa Romeo Brera made its debut as a concept car at that 2002 Geneva Motor Show, the media and the public instantly hailed it as one of the most stylish cars of the show, prompting Alfa Romeo to make the car available to the public for the 2006 model year.
The car's shape was penned by Italdesign, led by noted designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the man behind the looks of many legendary Alfa Romeos over the years including the Giulia Sprint of the 1960s and the Alfetta GT from the 1970s. The Brera's design was incorporated into both the Alfa Romeo 156 in 2003 and the Alfa Romeo 159, serving as the company's trademark look for all of its passenger cars.
As a concept car, the Brera featured an FR (Front engine, Rear drive, configuration with a 4.0-liter V8 mounted longitudinally under the hood. But the production model came with either an FF (Front-engine, Front drive) or all-wheel-drive layout.
Under the hood was the choice of two engines, a 2.2-liter inline-4 or a 3.2-liter V6, both featuring direct injection. The highest grade 3.2 JTS Q4–combining the 256 HP six-cylinder powerplant and all-wheel-drive–was the choice for enthusiasts. Not only was it quick, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds, it possessed world-class handling. When you also considered how good it looked, the Brera was a true classic in the making.
