In-game description[]
First shown at the Geneva Motor Show[1] in Spring 2000, the awesome V12 Vanquish is the most technically advanced car ever to emerge from the Aston Martin factory. The little Newport Pagnell company, renowned for its traditional handbuilt sports cars has entered the 21st Century with a bang. Aston Martin is owned by Ford and the Vanquish is a showcase for the firm's latest technology. The heart of the Vanquish is a six-litre V12 engine developed from the DB7 Vantage. But in the Vanquish it has been honed to develop a thumping 450bhp at 6,500rpm together with a tower of torque. At 5,000rpm the engine produces a full 410 lb-ft of pulling power. The 60 degree V12 is an all-alloy affair with twin overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. Visteon twin PTEC engine management controls the fuel injection, ignition and diagnostics. There's a unique engine oil to water head exchanger to boost cooling and an ionised gas misfire detection system which continuosly monitors each of the engine's 12 cylinder. As you can imagine this is one seriously hot motor and to isolate it from the rest of the car the front bulkhead is clad in an aerospace specification heat resistant material. Transferring all the power to the road is a specially-developed six-speed manual gearbox with Aston's new Auto Shift/Select Shift Manual (ASM/SSM) control system. This provides a Formula One style paddle shift on the steering column which can change gears in just 250 milliseconds. The electro-hydraulic system, developed by Magneti-Marelli[2] and Ford can also run in fully automatic. And there's a winter driving mode for slippery conditions. The rear axle incorporates a limited slip differential and there's an electronic brake and engine intervention traction control system - which, thankfully, can be switched off. The speed of the Vanquish is simply astonishing - it'll blast from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and hit 190 mph. And with all-round double wishbone suspension with monotube dampers and anti-roll bars serious cornering performance is taken for granted. Lightweight forged 19-inch aluminium wheels shod with Yokohama tyres provide the grip. At the front the tyres are a hefty 255/40ZR19 and 285/40ZZR19 at the rear. The rack and pinion steering boasts variable power assistance and enables it to have a speedy 2.73 turns lock to lock. Calling things to a halt are mighty 330mm ventilated discs with four-piston calipers and a Teves vacuum assisted anti-lock system. But it's not just in its mechanics that the Vanquish forges new ground. The gorgeous body - penned by DB7 designer Ian Callum - is of an entirely new structure. The main body, including the floor and front and rear bulkheads is formed from extruded aluminium sections which are bonded and riveted around the transmission tunnel which is made entirely from carbon fibre. Single piece composite inner panels with carbon fibre windscreen pillars are also bonded to the central structure to create a super high strength safety cell. Ahead of the passenger compartment a steel, aluminium and carbon fibre subframe carries the engine, transmission and front suspension and is bolted directly to the front bulkhead. All of the external body panels are made aluminium. Each panel is tailored and bonded to central structure by hand to ensure a perfect finish.

Trivia[]
- The displacement figure for the car in-game is not accurate to the real-world value of 5935cc.
- Although this car never appeared in any GT game after Gran Turismo Concept, it did appear in a Gran Turismo 4 E3 2004 build as seen in this video; meaning that it was going to be in Gran Turismo 4 before being ultimately replaced by its 2004 final-production equivalent in the final version of the game.
