Description[]
"Audi's second generation sports car based on the Le Mans-conquering R8."
The R8 was originally a Le Mans Prototype race car. Its name and much of its technology were incorporated into a road-going version of the car, which made its debut in 2006. The R8 road car met with worldwide critical acclaim, prompting the arrival of a second-generation model in 2016.
The new R8 adopted the original car's basic formula, but there were key changes, including a new version of the lightweight Audi Space Frame constructed from lightweight materials. It also had an updated version of the quattro AWD system. While the new car's exterior styling appeared similar to that of its predecessor, most of its details here were completely new.
Inside the engine bay was the same 5.2-liter V-10 as before, but the one in the second-generation R8 produced 14.8 HP more, bringing total output to 532.5 HP. Also, the new model lineup featured the "R8 V10 Plus," which increased power to 601.6 HP, while adding a fixed rear wing and a mechanical LSD as standard fare. The newly tuned engine allowed the R8 V10 Plus to run from zero to 100 km in a scant 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
Brand Central[]
Like the original, the second-generation R8, introduced in 2016, was practically built for the track. After all, the R8 was developed by the same department in charge of Audi's customer race cars. Where the second-gen model really shines is its weight, or lack thereof. It's much lighter than the original model. The base version came equipped with a 5-2liter V-10 FSI engine. But this V10 plus[2] model received special tuning, putting a lot more power under the hood.
