The Audi R8 LMS (Team PlayStation) '09 is a race car produced by Audi. It first appears in Gran Turismo PSP.

The car appears to resemble the #97, driven by Christian Abt, Jean-Francois Hemroulle, Pierre Kaffer, and Lucas Luhr, who finished the 2009 24 Hours of Nürburgring in 2nd place overall. However, the numbers and other details of the car were changed to make the car a "teaser" for the then-upcoming Gran Turismo 5, when it originally debuted in GT PSP.

In-game descriptionEdit

"A GT3 version of the R8 based on the 5.2 FSI Quattro."

Based on the sultry-looking Le Mans Quattro concept car presented at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version of the Audi R8 supercar debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2006.

And though the R8 was rolled out a V8 initially, there were rumors from the start that it would see a larger engine made available someday, since the engine compartment had plenty of room to spare. This theory bore itself when a concept car powered by a 12-cylinder diesel appeared in the 2008 Detroit Motor Show, then again in 2009 when a 5.2-liter V10 model, the 5.2 FSI Quattro, entered production.

The new V10 engine produced 518 HP at 8000 rpm and 390.5 lb-ft of torque, and was capable of running 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, versus a time of 4.6 seconds for the V8-powered 4.2 FSI Quattro.

But Audi wasn't finished with the R8 yet: In the fall of 2008, the company announced that it would make available a GT3-class competition version, dubbed the R8 LMS, available to privateer racing teams. The new car was successful from the start - Audi entered four cars in the difficult 24 Hours of Nürburgring; not only did all four finish but one car won the GT3 class and finished second overall. Look for more success by the sleek sports car, both on and off the track, in the future.
