In-game Description[]

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

The Audi S3 quattro is the hottest hatch of the lot. Freshly introduced into European markets in 1999, the S3 sets new compact car standards for speed, acceleration, and grip. Guaranteeing spleen-rupturing lateral forces through corners is an advanced quattro four-wheel drive system modified from that fitted to the fantastic TT coupe. At this set-up's heart is a hydraulic multi-plate clutch that sends most torque to the axle where the wheels are sensed to be gripping hardest. An Electronic Differential Lock traction control system also ensures the highest levels of adhesion to the front wheels in all driving conditions, especially when thrusting away from a standing start. The S3's practical three-door bodyshell conceals MacPherson strut front suspension featuring unique geometry , while at the rear compact trailing arms and transverse control rods are utilised. Stiffened and shortened springs allow the body to sit even lower to the ground then the A3 1.8T Sport, further reducing the centre of gravity and tendency to roll. Added driver assistance is lent by pointy power-assisted steering, plus instant stopping is provided by ventilated disc brakes with a high-performance anti-lock system and Electronic Brake Distribution. Making the strongest possible bond between chassis and asphalt are hard-biting 225/45 tyres on monster 17-inch Avus-style alloy wheels. Don't expect that rubber to last long though, considering the potent 1.8-litre 20-valve turbocharged four-cylinder engine lurking under the bonnet. The S3's power output is unbeaten by any car of this size, with a remarkable 210BHP delivered at 5,800rpm. Increasing surge still further is a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox. As you'd expect, performance times are eye-wideningly swift. The blast from rest to 62mph takes only 6.8 seconds before the S3 thunders on to a 148mph maximum. And that's with a week's shopping in the boot. For now at least, with figures like that no other performance hatchback can even begin to match it.
