"Version 2 of the Garaiya, which became 2nd overall in the Super GT Series."
―In-game catch text for the car, from GT6's Dealership

The Autobacs ARTA Garaiya '08 is a race car produced by Autobacs. It appears in Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6.

The car appears to be the #43, driven by Morio Nitta and Shinchi Takagi, who achieved a 2nd place finish in the GT300 class in the 2008 Super GT season. Kyosuke Mineo joined as the team's third driver in the Suzuka 1000km race, but was unclassified in the GT300 Drivers' Championship due to the car's failure to finish the race.

In-game description[]

The Garaiya is a 2-seat mid-engine coupe developed by ASL (Autobacs Sportscar Laboratory), part of the Autobacs Group, a major Japanese retail chain specializing in automotive accessories. A special racing version of the Garaiya was created in 2003 to compete in the GT300 class of the Japan Grand Touring Championship (JGTC), later renamed the Super GT Series.

Racing under the ARTA banner (Autobacs Racing Team Aguri) managed by former F1 driver Aguri Suzuki, the race Garaiya was powered by Nissan's SR20DET 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4. This engine was later swapped out for the VQ35DE, Nissan's 3.0-liter V-6. With Morio Nitta and Shinichi Takagi at the wheel, the car became a top contender for the championship in its initial year of competition. After just missing out on the title in its third season in 2005, the car was pulled from competition. The Garaiya returned to the mix in 2007 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of ARTA. It was basically the same car as the one from 2005; therefore, it was a step slower than the competition.

Just before the 2008 season, ARTA decided to prepare an all-new machine. The "Version 2.0" Garaiya was improved in virtually every way, with a lighter and stronger chassis, larger Michelin tires and a more powerful engine. The car, once again driven by Nitta and Takagi, won the second round at the Okayama International Circuit, and the fifth round at Sugo. They also finished 2nd in the eighth round at Autopolis, and achieved an impressive 2nd place overall for the year.
