In-game descriptionEdit

This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

The newest BMW 3-Series sedans, introduced in Europe in 1998 and the US a year later, may seem at first glance to be softer and less overtly sporting than the previous models. It is true that the styling is less aggressive - much like the current 5-Series, in fact - and equipment levels are higher. But they are still from BMW, master builder of sports sedans. The new 3 is larger and more comfortable. Its chassis is also more rigid, and the independent MacPherson strut front, multilink suspension has been massaged for even better ride and handling. Standard four-wheel ventilated disc brakes ensure quick stopping. In some parts of the world, the entry-level 3 is the 320i, with a 118 BHP 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine. In the US, only the two six-cylinder cars are offered: the 2.5-liter 323i and the 2.8-liter 328i. Engines for both are dual overhead cam, 24-valve designs with variable valve timing. The 323i has 170 BHP at 5,500 rpm, with 181 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. The 328i has 193 BHP at 5,500 rpm and 206 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. Both are quick (0-60 in 7.1 and 6.6 seconds, respectively), and comfortable in standard trim. BMW hasn't forgotten its heritage. The new 3 still likes to have fun.

The player can purchase this car at the BMW dealership for 55,310 Credits. In addition, this car is available from the start in Arcade Mode, where is classified as a B-Class Car.

  • Even in the NTSC versions of GT2, this car is referred to as a "Saloon" instead of "Sedan". Saloon is a commonplace term used in the UK and several other countries in Europe to describe this body style.
