In-game description[]
This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:
The newest BMW 3-Series sedans, introduced in Europe in 1998 and the US a year later, may seem at first glance to be softer and less overtly sporting than the previous models. It is true that the styling is less aggressive - much like the current 5-Series, in fact - and equipment levels are higher. But they are still from BMW, master builder of sports sedans. The new 3 is larger and more comfortable. Its chassis is also more rigid, and the independent MacPherson strut front, multilink suspension has been massaged for even better ride and handling. Standard four-wheel ventilated disc brakes ensure quick stopping. In some parts of the world, the entry-level 3 is the 320i, with a 118 BHP 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine. In the US, only the two six-cylinder cars are offered: the 2.5-liter 323i and the 2.8-liter 328i. Engines for both are dual overhead cam, 24-valve designs with variable valve timing. The 323i has 170 BHP at 5,500 rpm, with 181 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. The 328i has 193 BHP at 5,500 rpm and 206 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. Both are quick (0-60 in 7.1 and 6.6 seconds, respectively), and comfortable in standard trim. BMW hasn't forgotten its heritage. The new 3 still likes to have fun.
