In-game description[]
"Featuring BMWs high-revving engine technology, this sports model stands at the peak of the E46 3 Series."
Introduced in 2000, the 3rd generation M3 is the top performance model of the E46 chassis 3 series, which had undergone a full model change in 1998.
When making this car, the biggest topic on the minds of the small-run production car specialist M division was the power unit. The 3.2L inline-6 produces over 98.6 BHP per litre for a maximum power output of 338.2 BHP/7,900 rpm and maximum torque output of 37.2 kgfm/4,900 rpm, making this engine an iconic symbol of the high-revving engine technology BMW had become famous for. At first this model was only available with a Getrag-built 6-speed manual transmission, but it was later also available with the SMG-II transmission, an improved version of BMW's 2-pedal manual 'SMG' (Sequential Manual Gearbox).
The M3 CSL model, added in 2003, used an extensive range of weight-saving innovations such as a carbon-fibre roof to reduce the weight by over 100 kg, bringing the car down from 1,570 kg for the base M3 to just 1,400 kg. Engine performance was also improved, now producing 355 BHP/7,900 rpm and 37.8 kgfm/4,900 rpm. With these improvements combined, the car now had a power-to-weight ratio of 3.90 kg/BHP over the base model's 4.61 kg/BHP, staggering figures for what is essentially a performance passenger car.
Brand Central (GT7)[]
Like its predecessors, the third generation BMW M3 is a quintessential example of a FR sports car. Its naturally aspirated straight-six engine is highly tuned, producing more than 98.6 BHP per litre of displacement. A truly exceptional piece of machinery, it's hailed as the fastest, most powerful straight-six engine in the world. With a compact, stylish body and a very fine engine indeed, this car has only grown more magnificent with age.
Used Cars (GT7)[]
This third generation E46 M3 is one of the most coveted vehicles on the used car market. It boasts a custom straight-six engine produced by BMW M, the company's in-house motorsport division. This triumph of engineering roars with unbridled power, producing an engine note that truly raises the spirits. Its compact body is also rather in vogue these days.

If you're seeking a thrill that only a sports car engine can offer, then the BMW M3 series is for you! This E46 M3 is mounted with an S54B straight-six... And delivers high revs and a power output that feels simply out of this world. It is without a doubt an icon among icons. The E46 also exhibits the exceptional FR handling that drivers have come to expect of BMW cars. Indeed, more and more people will be singing its praises in the years to come.
Shiro Nakamura[]
Among the many 3-series cars to follow the 2002, this was the last to use BMW's traditional design language. Despite the conventionality in theme and execution, this car looks really great. One particularly effective design element... Is the short front overhang when viewed from the rear quarters. It's almost non-existent. You can hardly see it. The engineers and designers clearly understood that proportions have to be planned early on. It may look simple, but it's not so easily accomplished on a mass-production scale.
