"The first generation M3 is one of BMW's most beloved cars... And the Sport Evolution is a particularly notable variant. This model was homologated for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Its engine was increased in size to 2.5L. Featuring a custom spoiler, among other cosmetic changes, it looks[1] slightly different from a normal M3. While most M3s have proved very popular, this one was a particular hit."

In-game description[]

"The beginning of a legend. A highly modified homologation version of the E30 3 Series."

The first M3 of BMW appeared in 1985. This was a roadcar developed by BMW M, based on the E30 3 series, as a base car for participation in touring car racing.

Based on the 2 door sedan, the tread width was widened, and the fenders were flared to match. Together with front and rear spoilers as well as side skirts, even the angle of the C Pillar and rear window was revised, with the rear boot changed to a high deck style. This improved the Cd value of the car from 0.38 to 0.33. The engine was a special 2.3 litre DOHC inline 4 cylinder, with a maximum output of 192.3 BHP, and a maximum torque of 23.4 kgfm.

The race spec model was introduced from 1987, and in the DTM it dominated the series by winning 5 races out of 10. While the car gained fame in motorsports around the world, further advancements were made to the homologation model roadcar.

In the same year, the M3 Evolution was released with even further improved aerodynamics and a 207 BHP engine. In 1988 the engine was further improved to produce 216.9 BHP in the M3 Evolution II, and in 1989 the final model of the E30 type M3 was released. The final model, called the M3 Sport[2] Evolution, had a bigger displacement of 2.5L according to racing regulations, and produced 234.7 BHP / 24.5 kgfm. Dedicated front and rear spoilers were also produced.

Café Conversations (GT7)[]

Chris[]

Hmm, a BMW M series car... the first-generation M3s are best associated with racing. The final model, this 'Sport Evolution', is enormously popular. It is distinguished by its upgraded 2.5L engine and rear spoilers. At first glance, these may seem like slight modifications, but those in the know will tell you otherwise. Ho ho! Indeed, this is one mean machine... Not too many of these cars were produced, so you can expect that their price will only go up.

Kagurazaka[]

The 1980s was truly the peak of 'boxy' car design. Blister fenders were the result of an attempt to marry round tyres to a square body design. They were a defining symbol of the times. While the geometric body of this car may be minimalistic... The abstracted form still manages to exude an intense need for speed. Or maybe it's because of its shape that this quality really stands out.
