Description[]
Bike fans took an instant liking to the Buell XB9R and XB9S when they were released in 2001. The popularity of these supersport bikes was due to the solid power of the overhead-valve V-twin engine - a modified version of a Harley Davidson Sportster mill - and to their unique, sporty styling, unlike anything seen before in an American bike. Buell followed up in 2003 with the XB12R and XB12S, powered by the same engine as the Sportster 1200. Special exhaust valves improved low- to midrange torque, and improved power delivery.
With its torquey engine and a chassis with dimensions almost like a 250-cc 2-stroke race replica, the XB12R was instantly recognised for its considerable racing potential. This particular racing-spec XB12R is equipped with a genuine Buell high-performance kit featuring a racing exhaust and engine control unit and a high-performance air cleaner. The kit boosts power 10% over the stock bike, to 116 hp at 6,600 r.p.m.
Although the lightweight and rigid rims and brake parts are all stock, inner parts of the fork were changed and the entire rear shock unit replaced to handle the extra power.
