Drifting is the technique of oversteering and loosing traction whilst maintaining overall control of the vehicle. Drifting was first made popular in Japan in the 1970s and further popularized by the 90s manga series, Initial D.

Competitive events like D1 Grand Prix, Drift Masters, Formula D and Drift Allstars further popularized the growing Japanese motorsport and interested international watchers in the growing motorsport.
