Description[]

"The new generation midship Corvette."

The byword for the all-American sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette saw a historic change in 2019. Introduced that year, the eighth generation Corvette became the very first in the line to use a midship layout.

This revolutionary change is apparent from a single look at the exterior. The Chevrolet's iconic long nose is nowhere to be seen, and with the cabin moved forward, the body fits the classic midship profile. Without an engine, the front section now serves as luggage space; meanwhile, behind the engine sits another luggage area big enough for a golf bag.

The V8 engine at the heart of the car is the new generation small block LT2 which was developed from the previous generation model C7's LT1 engine. With 6.2L of displacement, it is able to produce 495.1 HP/479.1 ft-lb but also features fuel saving features like cylinder deactivation. The transmission is now only available as an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic but manual control is also possible using steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The suspension uses double wishbone construction on all 4 corners, and is available with a height adjustment system for handling high kerbs and other obstacles.

The driver centered cockpit features a multifunctional infotainment system controlled by an 8-inch touchscreen. With the engine bay moved to the rear of the cabin, the new generation Corvette has shown itself to be a contender with exceptional performance in GT racing.

Brand Central (GT7)[]

This eighth-gen C8 certainly took the world by surprise as the first Corvette to use a midship layout. Since the birth of the first 'Vette in 1953, the famed brand had always been known as an FR sports car. While engineers had toyed with the possibility of a midship Corvette since the 1960s... It wasn't until the C8 that they were able to make their dream a reality. Combining a 6.2L naturally-aspirated V8 engine and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission... The continued use of a traditional OHV layout makes the C8 a pure 'Vette in both sound and fury.

C8 Corvette at World Finals

The C8 Corvette shown during the 2022 Gran Turismo World Series World Finals weekend.

  • A C8 Corvette with Gran Turismo logos was displayed during the 2022 Gran Turismo World Series World Finals weekend. While its appearance there did not necessarily mean a plan for an in-game inclusion, it did appear an update after the event.
    • However, the car shown during the event is a convertible with the Z51 Performance Package, while the one appearing in-game is a regular coupe. The car shown during the event was also the one reviewed by EVO magazine, as it had the same plate (FC 8111).
  • The Type A rear wing and the Type B front part installable from GT Auto are the Z51 Performance Package parts, while the Type B rear wing is the C8.R's rear wing.
