The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C2) Race Car '63 is a race car produced by Chevrolet. It appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 6.

In-game description[]

"The works Z06 entered in the SCCA Production/Los Angeles Times GP."

In addition to the finely polished Corvette Stingray, a race car package known as the Z06 was made available by Chevrolet, but it was only made available for the year in which it was launched.

Made available only as a coupe, the Z06 was built with reinforced suspension and brakes, as well as an over-sized 36-gallon fuel tank. With the price tag of $1818, this option package alone cost approximately half as much as the vehicle itself. Consequently, Chevrolet sold no more than 199 units. As one would expect, most of these Z06s were equipped with the top-of-the-line 355 HP 327ci fuel-injected L84's.

The main goal of Chevrolet's investment in the Z06 was the domination of the SCCA Production class. To show off and prove the high level of its performance. Chevrolet sent three Z06s straight from the factory to Riverside Raceway in suburban Los Angeles to take part in the SCCA Production class at the L.A. Time GP. Driving the Z06s were Dave MacDonald, Bob Bondurant, and Doug Hopper. Doug Hopper and his Z06 took the checkered flag in their debut race. From then on, the Z06s continued to be top contenders in the SCAA A-Production class, running many heated battles against the Shelby Cobras which debuted around the same time.

The Z06 shown here is the โ™ฏ614 that Bob Bondurant drove at Riverside. Active in historic car racing, this particular car has had its brakes swapped out for the 4-wheel disc brakes that became available in 1965, and a carburetor has been fitted to the engine. Its output is said to be 592 HP, and it still participates in historic car races to this day.
