In-game description[]
- "Ask someone to name the greatest American sports car, and chances are, the answer will be the Corvette. The model before you is the fifth-generation iteration—known as the C5—an modern marvel of sports-car engineering. This particular version revives a storied name, a nod to the second-generation Corvette's renowned race package. At its heart lies the LS6 engine—a compact yet formidable 384.6 HP V-8 derived from the legendary LS1. Naturally, the chassis has been refined, complemented by competition-grade suspension and brakes. A close relative of the C5-R race car, this Corvette masterfully blends heritage with high-performance capability."

- "Looking for a true, unapologetically American sports car? The Chevrolet Z06 is a revived legend for the fifth-generation Corvette. The Z06 plays homage to the 1960s C2 race package. Unveiled in 2000,[1] this reincarnated Z06 builds on the C5 platform with enhanced suspension and upgraded brakes, and more. Under the hood is a 5.7-liter V-8 producing 384.6 HP, paired with weight-reduction measures to sharpen its edge. Its notchback body sets it apart from the base model. So, are you ready to find out what she's really made of?"
- ―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Used Car Dealership
In 1999, Chevrolet introduced a hardtop variant to the Corvette C5 lineup. It traded the coupe's removable top and rear hatch for a fixed-roof design, increasing structural stiffness that translated into improved handling and driving dynamics. Further underscoring this intent, opting for the hardtop model automatically bundled the Z51 performance handling package and a 6-speed manual transmission.
Remarkably, despite these upgrades, it was priced below the standard coupe. That's why it became a compelling choice for driving enthusiasts who were drawn to its niche appeal. However, these high-performance enhancements came at a significant increase in price. The Z06 was the most expensive model in the C5 range, even surpassing the convertible, which made it beyond the reach of many, especially when compared to the more accessible fixed-roof model that preceded it.
Still, the Z06 continued to evolve. In 2002, power output rose to 405.3 HP. Delivering 394.5 HP-plus was unheard of for a small-block V-8 at the time. These milestones helped cement the C5 Z06 as one of the fastest and most formidable mass-production sports cars of its era.
