The Citroën C4 WRC is a World Rally Car built for the Citroën World Rally Team by Citroën Racing to compete in the World Rally Championship. It is based upon the Citroën C4 road car and replaced the Citroën Xsara WRC. The car was introduced for the 2007 World Rally Championship season and has taken the drivers' title each year since in the hands of Frenchman Sébastien Loeb, as well as the manufacturers' title in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The car made its debut in Gran Turismo 5 as a car of choice for the Sébastien Loeb Rally Challenge, named after Loeb himself who drove the car in his WRC days.

Description[]

"Loeb achieved 11 series wins in this; the car that replaced the Xsara WRC."

French auto manufacturer Citroën left the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the 2005 season, but returned two years later to contest for the 2007 crown. The company's comeback was highlighted by an all-new car called the C4 WRC, which replaced the successful Xsara racing car. Armed with a new engine, lightweight chassis and advanced aerodynamic parts, the C4 held much promise as the car that would return Citroën to the top of the WRC world.

The Citroën C4 WRC made its debut in the opening round of the 2008 season, once again in the very capable hands of lead driver Sébastien Loeb. Loeb was on quite a roll in WRC completion at the time, having captured the Drivers Championship four years in a row, the only driver to do so apart from Tommi Makinen. Loeb started with a bang, as he won the first three races of the season.

After a dry spell in mid-season, he went on another winning steak in mid-season as he took the checker for Rallies 9 through 13. In the 14th round in Japan, Loeb failed to make it to the top of the podium, setting for a 3rd-place finish. No matter; leading his rivals in points just before the final round, he secured his fifth Driver's Championship in a row, a feat no other driver in the WRC has accomplished.

Trivia[]

  • Due to Polyphony Digital only renewing the license for 2008 WRC cars (the license for 2013 WRC season was held by Milestone) at the last minute, the car was initially not featured in GT6's early car lists, and was only added in Version 1.01 (day one patch).
    • As a result, the AI does not use any of the 2008 WRC cars in Arcade Mode or Career events, but the car has been used by the AI in under-500 PP racing car Seasonal Events.
  • The car that appears in the game appears from the 2008 Rally Japan, evident by the license plate (733 EGZ 78) and the shape of the front bumper.
    • In the GT5 E3 2009 trailer, the car carries 2008 Rally Japan plates; there were also Rally Japan logos on the doors where WRC logos are on the final car.
