In-game description[]

"Produced by France's Citroën, the DS is a timeless masterpiece. Citroën was originally founded in 1919, and from early on the company was known for their advanced technology. In the '30s, Citroën produced unibody front-wheel-drive cars when separate frames and rear-wheel-drive were the norm. The 'Traction Avant', released in 1934, broke records with 750,000 units sold before production ended. The DS model that replaced the Traction Avant was introduced at the 1955 Paris Salon international car show. Visitors were wowed by the futuristic body penned by Italian sculptor and designer Flaminio Bertoni. The DS is a mid-size four-door sedan, but the front is sharp and aerodynamic like a sports car... While the body sharply tapers towards the rear. Additionally, the car's every system, from the suspension to the brakes and transmission... is controlled by a proprietary hydraulic system. The DS we have here is a later model, which shows a few evolutionary design changes. It also has adaptive headlights that respond to steering inputs—a rather modern idea!"
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Legend Car Dealership

Citroën were committed to front-wheel drive, and this DS is their masterpiece, made with all the most cutting edge technologies of the time.

It first appeared at the 1955 Salon de l'Automobile. While many other manufacturers were still producing cars in the pre-war style, the DS was a stunning vision of the future. With its avant-garde aerodynamic body and revolutionary hydropneumatic suspension system it was nicknamed the 'flying saucer'. Development was led by André Lefébvre, while the comparatively large 4.8m long body was designed by Italian Flaminio Bertoni, who had also worked on the classic 2CV.

With such forward thinking design, the popularity of the DS did not wane for some time. Including various equipment and engine upgrades, the car continued to be produced for 20 years. In 1964, the 'Pallas' grade was added with luxury interior and exterior fixtures. Then in 1967, the car was given a more modern visage with the 2 round headlights repeated by headlights in covered units.

The DS Pallas is a 2.1L engine model produced from 1969. The large seats and spacious interior remain, and the lightweight body is elegantly propelled by the 114.4 BHP engine.

While originally conceived as an everyday passenger vehicle, the DS was also loved as a state car, ambulance and often a taxi. It is one of the most important French cards in automotive history.
