- "At the request of DeLorean owners, the tuned-up Series 2 was created."
- ―In-game catch text for the car, from GT7's car collection
The DMC DeLorean S2 '04 is a sports car produced by DMC. It appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5, Gran Turismo 6, and Gran Turismo 7. An older version of this car was also featured in the Back to the Future film series.
In-game description[]
- "The DeLorean first exploded into the public consciousness when it featured in the movie Back to the Future. DMC, the company that built it, was founded by John Z. DeLorean, a former vice president of General Motors. Their first and only production model was the DMC-12, and DeLorean himself oversaw the entire creation process. DMC lasted less than two years after production began, but the brand was subsequently acquired by another company. The DeLorean seen here is the 'Series 2', a remake proposed by the new DMC. Its key feature is an improved 197.2 BHP engine."
- ―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central
- "The DeLorean is a timeless classic, revered throughout the world. Featured prominently in Back to the Future, many moviegoers fell in love with it at first sight. While it uses the same RR layout as a Porsche 911, its V6 engine could only produce 128.2 BHP at release. This 'Series 2' model utilizes an improved engine capable of generating up to 197.2 BHP. That's more than enough power to make it a joy to drive!"
- ―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Used Car Dealership
Car Index (GT7)[]
John Z. DeLorean, who was the driving force behind Pontiac in the mid 1960's and the vice president of GM at the time, left GM at the end of the 1970's, and established his own car manufacturer.
DMC, or DeLorean Motor Company, set up base in Ireland. Its first mass-production model was the DMC-12. DeLorean's objective was to release a reasonably-priced, stylish sports car. However, as the recently-established DMC did not have the expertise to develop such a car, the design of the DMC-12 had to be outsourced.
As a result, the chassis was handled by Lotus, while the body design was undertaken by Italdesign. Chassis construction consisted of a Lotus-style steel backbone frame, with a new PRV SOHC V6 engine capable of 128 HP mounted in the rear. Its rustproof stainless steel body and gull-wing doors attracted a lot of attention.
While the DMC-12[1] recorded sales of 6,500 cars its first year of 1981, in the midst of this success DeLorean's president was arrested for suspicion of drug possession. This matter ended with a not-guilty verdict, but DMC tragically went bankrupt soon after, in 1983. Total production of the DMC-12 until this time was only 8,500.
After this, the engine inventory of the DMC-12s were shipped from Ireland to the U.S., and passed into the hands of a newborn DMC which would maintain the current model DeLoreans. This company, responding to the requests and demands of DeLorean owners, announced a tuning menu that increased engine power to 197 HP. DeLoreans equipped with this engine are known as Series 2.

Trivia[]
- Because the car is treated as 2004 model year vehicle due to the car's modifications, it cannot enter events for 80's cars. This is also the reason why it is sold in Brand Central in GT7, although it does occasionally appear in the Used Car Dealership, but not exclusively sold there.
- When Polyphony Digital sought out to put the DeLorean in Gran Turismo, head mechanic Toby Peterson of DMC Northwest in Washington, USA (now DeLorean Service Northwest) was contacted for his stage 2 1981 DeLorean to be scanned and recorded to obtain the most accurate audio and visual specs for this model.
- In GT4, due to the car being treated as a tuned car, the player will encounter entry-level race cars such as the Spoon FIT Race Car '03 when using this car in Arcade Mode and Family Cup races; it also cannot enter any road-car only events. In GT7 however, this car is treated as a road car.
