The Dodge Challenger R/T Race Car '70 is a unique race car based on the Dodge Challenger R/T '70. It appears in Gran Turismo 5 (as a race modified version of the aforementioned car) and Gran Turismo 6.

Description[]

"The classic muscle car, tuned by Gran Turismo."

This is an original tuned model created by "Gran Turismo" based on the Dodge Challenger R/T (1970).

The following is the description of the base model:

The first generation Challenger debuted in 1970, as a sister car utilizing the same E-body as the Plymouth Barracuda.

The body was made available in a hard top and a convertible. In the mid-1960's in the U.S., many popular pony cars (cheap, high performance stylish cars) were released, starting with the Ford Mustang, followed by cars like the Chevrolet Camaro[1] and Pontiac Firebird. But the Challenger was released after this trend had passed its peak, a late bloomer of sorts.

However, the Challenger was still very welcomed by the public at the time. One of the major reasons was probably its style, with its low, sharp silhouette and coke bottle lines. The design was by Carl Cameron, who had designed the 1966 Dodge Charger, and this design would later carry over into the third generation Challenger which debuted 40 years later in the at 2006 North American International Motor Show.

The first generation Challenger came in a Challenger 6, Challenger V8, and Challenger R/T (Road/Track) models. In addition, there is a T/A model which is a homologation for participation in the SCCA Trans-Am racing, but the R/T is the most high performance model out of the commercially mass produced lineup.

  • A thumbnail for an unused Dodge Challenger R/T Tuned Car can be found inside the game files of Gran Turismo 5. Said tuned car, which is almost identical to this car except for having less logos and lacking the driver number, was possibly used during the early stages of development, before being reworked into a racing modification in the final game.
  • A rival car in the Real Circuit Tours event of Gran Turismo Sport features a livery that bears a resemblance to this car, only in white.
