The Dome ZERO Concept '78 is a concept car produced by Dome. It appears in Gran Turismo Concept, Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6. The car is known in Japan as 童夢-零 (Domu-Rei).

In-game description[]

"The road-going sportscar born in Kyoto; there were great hopes for a commercial release."
The Dome project began in Kyoto in 1975. Minoru Hayashi, an aspiring race-car constructor, decided to embark on a new project, to build a road-going sports car. He had gathered various engineers he had met through his racing experiences across Japan and brought them together to make up his development team.

The fruit of their labors was a car called the Dome Zero, introduced at the 48th Gavena Motor Show. The Dome Zero used a steel monocoque main body and was powered by Nissan's L28, a 2.8-liter inline-6 that put out 142 HP. The FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) body had an avant-garde design composed of simple flat surfaces; it also sat low to the ground, providing a menacing appearance. The road car featured retractable headlights and gull-wing doors that gave it an exotic flavor.

Dome applied to the Japanese Ministry of Transport to attain homologation status for the Zero as a road-going vehicle for the general market, but the Ministry stubbornly stalled an approval. Abandoning plans for domestic homologation in Japan, Dome shifted its attention to attaining homologation in the U.S., creating the Dome Zero P2, which incorporated minor upgrades like larger front and rear bumpers to comply with U.S. regulations.

But the P2 project was shelved after Dome announced plans to compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans with a prototype racer. Now the Zero lives on only in memory.
