"Race through the greenery of forests and huge rock cliffs, a sports car race through the grandeur of nature."
―In-game description

The El Capitan 200 Miles is an endurance race in Gran Turismo 4. The object of this race is to simply complete 66 laps of El Capitan.

AI Opponents[]

Your opponents mostly drive British sports and American muscle cars. However there are a few wildcard entries from other countries such as Germany and Italy.

In the international versions of the game, the only Asian car that can appear is the Spirra.

Strategy[]

Most of your opponents can set laps around the 1'58 mark once their tires are heated up - some can even go faster. Most also have a tire life expectancy of around 11-12 laps, which can be considered a bench mark to improve upon.

A key opponent to watch out for is the Zonda, which can set fast times but also stay out on its tires for up to 19 laps. Other opponents worth watching out for are the Series 1, Viper SRT10 and Corvette Z06. The fastest car in the race will be the Elise, which can set laps of under 1'55 at full pace, burying its opponents by up to 3 seconds.Pagani Zonda C12 '00Also pay attention to the fact that the fastest pit stop is between 23 and 25 laps.

Players should also be wary of slower entries that could hold them up, particularly in B-Spec mode. Notably slow cars are the Aston Martin, Mercedes and Corvette ZR-1. Not only are they slow, but they also have the poorest tire life and barely ever get lap times of under 2 minutes.

Ideally, you want a car that can manage the 1'58 benchmark, but can also last for a prolonged period of time on a single set of tires. A car with high downforce is desirable, as it allows you to clear the crest section quickly while keeping the car low to the ground. El Capitan is quite demanding on the car's front tyres due to its many high-speed winding turns, so a car with a 50:50 weight distribution is ideal for balanced tyre wear and consistent handling.

The Suzuki GSX-R/4 Concept '01, obtained by completing the Suzuki Concepts event, is one of the best options for this endurance. It can get 30 / 30 downforce after equipping a rear wing from GT Auto, weighs only 582kg after weight reductions, is tied for the best chassis grip stats in the game, and wears its front and rear tyres evenly. With sports mediums equipped, the GSX-R/4 is capable of matching or beating the AI in terms of pit strategy, especially with smooth throttle control and gear management. Other good choices include the Amuse S2000 R1 '04, Opera Performance S2000 '04, Amuse S2000 GT1 '04, Honda NSX Type R '02 and BMW M3 CSL '03.

You can also equip sports tyres on a race car so it's eligible to enter. The Nissan MOTUL PITWORK Z '04, obtained by completing All Japan GT Championship (GT4), handles exceptionally well with sports mediums after you max out its downforce to 50 / 70. Don't equip any turbo upgrades, however, as sports tyres have low traction and the rear tyres will wear very quickly if the car has too much power.

Sports hards tires are not recommended for this endurance. The sacrifice in grip is massive compared to mediums, and the durability increase is barely noticeable. In most cases, hard tyres will wear just as quickly as mediums, as the tyres are more likely to slip and lose grip mid-corner.
