Changes: FPV F6 Typhoon '04

The FPV F6 Typhoon '04 is a road car produced by FPV. It only appears in Gran Turismo 4 and Gran Turismo PSP.

Colors

There are thirteen colors to choose from for this car:

In-game description

GM Holden and Ford Australia have been duking it out in the Australian market continuously since the '50s. Their respective tuning divisions, HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) and FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles), continue to introduce more and more high-performance models in this fierce ongoing competition.

Among them was the F6 Typhoon, introduced in October 2004 from FPV. The Typhoon was based on the Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo saloon and featured a turbocharged 4L straight-6 making 362 BHP and 56.1 kgfm of torque. This level of torque not only surpasses the 53.0 kgfm generated by other FPV models sporting bigger 5.4L V8s, it was also the most torque generated by any Australian-made mass-production engine up to then. The Typhoon also made news for its all-new close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.

In addition the Typhoon's power output was nothing to sneeze at. Even with two less cylinders, the difference in power only amounted to 27 BHP less than the 389 BHP of FPV's own V8 engines.

Since the '70s, fans of Australian cars have loved the cars' massive V8s with their beefy torque. In fact, the intense Bathurst 1000 endurance race, where Holdens and Fords battle to the death, is more popular in Australia than F1.

Despite the popularity of V8s, FPV went with the straight-6 because lighter engines have better overall response and superior torque response throughout the rev range. Brakes were also changed over to 4-pot Brembos, giving exceptional braking power. The high-performance Typhoon is definitely a threat to the Australian V8s.

-The FPV F6 Typhoon was the top-spec model of the XR6 series, based on the MkII facelift of the Ford Falcon, was launched in late 2004 as an entry-level FPV model.  The utility version, known as the Tornado, entered production in 2005, based on the brand new BF-series Falcon. In 2005, the BAII F6 Typhoon was disqualified from Motor magazine's annual Performance Car of the Year competition due to clutch failures in 2 separate cars. After initially blaming the magazine's testers, FPV labelled the car as "simply too powerful" and withdrew the car from sale for several months while they engineered a fix.
