In-game description[]

"The tradition of Ferrari mid-engined V8 models began with the 308 series. Yes, this model is of genuine historical value, no doubt about it. Its design was the work of none other than Pininfarina. They gave it stylish proportions that were subsequently inherited by later V8 models. Its compact body makes it light and agile, and the sensual engine tones are a delight for the ears. This 1975 model utilises both fuel injection and carburettors. It's all rounded off with a responsive accelerator that really lets you enjoy the engine's roar."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Used Car Dealership

Making its debut in 1975 was the successor to the very popular Ferrari Dino 246 GT called the 308 GTB. This svelte sports car represented one of the first of a long line of V-8-powered mid-engine Ferraris that would the exotic-car genre for years to come.

The wedge-shaped exterior was penned by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina, who was responsible for a number of Ferrari designs from the late 1960s to the early 1990s.

Under the sheet metal, the 308 GTB was equipped with a 3.0-liter DOHC V-8, the same powerplant as the Dino 208 GT4, which produced 251.4 HP. In 1980, new emissions regulations brought output down to 212 HP, but two years later Ferrari increased it back up to 236.6 HP after it adopted a 4-valve system for the engine. The new car was called the 308 GTB Quattrovalvole. In 1977, a targa top GTS was added to the mix, setting the stage 0 for the 328 that was introduced in 1985.

Café Conversations (GT7)[]

Fabio Filippini[]

Not only is the 308 the forebear of all modern 8-cylinder Ferraris, it is undoubtedly the most popular of them all. It may also be the longest-lasting. If one includes the 328 variant, its production run spanned from 1975 to 1989. The car's success is due to its pure and timeless design. It is also said to be very well balanced... And serves as a perfect example of Pininfarina's design philosophy. It even revives classic themes from the Dino 246, such as the flared wheel arches... The iconic side air intake, the dynamic rear pillars... And the truncated tail with four round taillights. Indeed, all of these elements were transformed to express a very modern form for its day.

Trivia[]

  • While the car is advertised as and has the specs of a fiberglass-bodied 1975 "Vetroresina" model, the car modeled in GT7 is in fact a later steel-bodied model built in 1977 or later. Distinguishing differences include the recessed rear license plate (as opposed to being flat on earlier models) and the reverse lights placed inside the rear indicators (instead of there being separate reverse lights inside the rear bumper).
  • This car accepts Dirt Tyres, being one of the only two Ferrari cars in the entire series so far to accept Dirt & Snow Tyres, along with the Ferrari GTO '84. This may refer to the 308's history of being a rally car from the 1970s to the 1980s.
