Car Index[]
"Producing an astonishing 562 BHP; the V8 midship car that takes its heritage from the F430."
The successor to the F430, the Ferrari 458 Italia appeared at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Ferrari's V8 series has evolved every 5 years starting in 1989 with the 348, the F355 in 1994, the 360 Modena in 1999, and the F430 in 2004, and of course this 458 is another masterpiece in the bloodline.
The chassis is a newly designed aluminum space frame, and the direct injection V8 engine produces 562 HP and 398.5 lb-ft, an astonishing figure from a normally aspirated engine. The transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch 2-pedal MT, and the shift speed has been greatly improved over previous models. Their Manettino system unifying the engine, gearbox, suspension, E-DIFF, F1 Trac, ESP, and high performance ABS controls, has advanced greatly, and allows the selection of 5 modes: Low Grip, Sports, Race, CT cut, and CST cut. Now it is possible for the driver to enjoy safe, fun driving more than ever. The suspension utilizes double wishbones in the front and multilinks in the rear, and the magnetic suspension first used in the 599 has also evolved into its second generation version.
Many new innovations have also been made in terms of aerodynamics, aggressively incorporating the newest racing technologies gained daily in the front lines of F1 racing. As a result, the specs of this car are extreme, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, with a maximum speed of 202 mph (325 km/h). The body styling is a straightforward evolution from the Enzo and F430, carrying over the sweeping flow and sharpness of the Pininfarina design.
Considering that the final and very special grade model of the F430 Scuderia accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds, with a maximum speed of 199 mph (320 km/h), you can see the definite progress made.
Café Conversations (GT7)[]
Fabio Filippini[]
The 458 Italia is one of Pininfarina's recent masterpieces to bear the cavallino. It is probably the most beautiful mid-engine Ferrari since the 308... Inheriting the sportiness, purity and elegance of the 308... It would influence the design language and proportions of all subsequent models. Its style is sinuous yet extremely pure. Characterized by flowing lines, it has no visible air inlets on the sides. The front is sharp, with the new 'scimitar' headlights... Embedded single round lights distinguish the rear, and the three round central exhausts are taken from the F40. If perfection in design is achieved when nothing can be removed from a shape without ruining it... Then the 458 is near perfection!
