Description[]
Famed Italian exotic car manufacturer Ferrari announced its new stunning roadster, the Ferrari California, after the legendary model of the 1950s-1960s, at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008.
As a precursor to this launch, an original movie created by Gran Turismo was released on a special Ferrari website, allowing the world to experience the dynamic driving style of the car just before its debut.
The Ferrari California was the company's first commercially available V8-powered FR (Front-engine, Rear-drive) sports car to feature a fully retractable convertible hardtop. Its styling was penned by Italian design house Pininfarina, and recalled the artful lines of the soft-top 250 GT and California Spider of yesteryear.
Under the hood was an all new longitudinally-mounted 4.3-liter V8 that churned out an impressive 454 HP. Its acceleration was equal to that of the fabulous Ferrari F430. Chassis composition was an all aluminum space frame, but the California utilizes the company's first multilink suspension. High-tech carbon ceramic brakes came as standard equipment.
The interior and luggage area (with folding rear seats) were bathed in luxurious materials, and drivers and passengers found that the car was extremely comfortable and refined, ideal for a long cross-country drive. As a high quality sports car that was practical for daily use, the Ferrari California not only conquered new territories for Ferrari but attracted a new kind of buyer as well.

Trivia[]
- Its drivetrain was unlisted in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
- The "F2008 Rosso" color has an underscore (instead of space) in the color's name. However, if that particular paint chip item is obtained, the underscore disappears when in GT Auto Paint Car menu.
- In GT5, during races, the California features an open top, unless a custom rear wing is installed from GT Auto. However, in GT6, the California has closed top at all times during races.
- The Ferrari California launch video mentioned in the description, released during the GT5P era of the Gran Turismo TV video-on-demand service, features footage from Nürburgring Nordschleife and Circuit de la Sarthe, tracks not normally accessible in the aforementioned game. Additionally, it also features the closed top version of the car that was not properly playable until GT6.
