Fiat S.p.A, or Fiat Group or simply Fiat, is an Italian car manufacturer which is featured in the Gran Turismo series. It debuted in the series with six cars in Gran Turismo 2 and has appeared in all subsequent mainline releases.

Background[]

Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) was founded in 1899 in Torino, Italy by a group of investors including Giovanni Agnelli. It is currently the largest car manufacturer in Italy, and the 6th largest in the world.

Fiat is famous for the production of several models, including the Fiat 500 series, Punto, Panda and Stilo. The manufacturer is also famous for owning other Italian automakers such as Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari (spun off in 2016), and it's sister company, Maserati.

In 2014, Fiat S.p.A. and Chrysler Automobiles merged to form a new company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, often abbreviated as FCA, effectively taking control of the Fiat Group. The merged company merged again with PSA Group (owner of the Citroën and Peugeot brands) to form Stellantis N.V. in 2021.

Trivia[]

  • In GT2, the internal names for Fiat cars begin with "ii" instead of "if", corresponding to the second letter instead of the first (for example, the internal name for Fiat Cinquecento Sporting is ii50n). It is possible the "if" prefix is reserved for Ferrari, which would not appear until the PlayStation 3 era of the games, beginning with Gran Turismo HD Concept.
