In-game description[]
The Fiat Punto is a small car that well known to Europeans. The second generation model debuted in 1999, commemorating the centennial anniversary of Fiat. In Japan however, there was one particular model that was somewhat different. Pay close attention to the Scorpion mark shining on the body of the sporty HGT model. This is the mark of Abarth, the sports tuner with a long history of special Fiat models.
Carlo Abarth (who had worked for Dr. Porsche at one time) became known for small lightweight sports cars that cleverly utilised Fiat components, and his cars raced on European Circuits from the 1950's to the 1970's.
He eventually became responsible for tuning cars in the newly-created Abarth division of Fiat, and original cars designed purely by him disappeared. In Japan there are many die-hard fans of the scorpion however, and that's why only the Japanese model of the Punto was given a model with this famous badge and naming.
The HGT Abarth engine was a 1.8L, DOHC inline-4. Though numerically it is just a 129 BHP engine, it is free-revving and eager to please the driver. The solid 5-speed MT, the slightly hard suspension, and everything else about the car gives you a feel that this Punto has been imbued with the fire of an Abarth.
The exterior styling is attractive as well. Its shape, seemingly cut out of a block with a chisel with no remorse or second thought, is more a modern piece of Italian sculpture than a car.
The Punto is available in a 3-door or a 5-door, but the HGT Abarth is only available as the former - something the Japanese fans were not bothered by in the slightest as that badge provided everything they desired.
