The Audi R8 LMS ultra '12 is a race car produced by Audi. It only appears in Gran Turismo 6.

In-game description[]

"Audi's GT3 machine, seen in races all over the world."

Audi's customer racing has sold the R8 LMS to GT3 racing customers all over the world since 2011. The base car is the high-performance flagship sportscar of Audi, the R8 5.2 FSI quattro. 4WD is not allowed according to the regulations, therefore the quattro system has been omitted to make the car a midship rear-wheel drive. The transmission is a paddle-shift, sequential 6-speed, with a front spoiler and large rear wing.

The 2012 spec car was called the R8 LMS ultra. It is a revision of the previous year's GT3 machine, the R8 LMS, so the exterior has no major changes, but there have been many improvements made that change its performance significantly.

The major updates involve the reduction of weight and improved aerodynamics. The door panels were changed from aluminium to carbon and fibreglass, reducing its weight by 40 kg down to a total weight of 1,250 kg. The front and rear aerodynamic parts were refined in detail, damper positions have changed, the front tyres are bigger, and the intake/exhaust system has been updated. The output of the V10 engine is announced to be over 542 BHP, but the restrictor will limit this to somewhere between 512 BHP-552 BHP.

The GT3 category is a testing ground for touring cars, where many powerful private teams battle for dominance, and the R8 LMS[1] ultra is highly regarded by these teams all over the world. From 2009 the car has been entered in the Nürburgring 24-hour race, and achieved its first victory in 2012. Even in the Super GT, Japan's premier touring car racing championship, many R8 LMS cars have fought in the GT300 class since 2012.

Trivia[]

  • Due to inconsistency in different LOD models, under normal gameplay, on the front sides of the hood, there are Audi Sport decals above the headlights; outside of it, like in the main menu, dealership or in Photo Mode, they are replaced by the quattro GmbH branding.
    • The gameplay model is also missing the front tow hook.
  • Compared to the Team Phoenix model, this car lacks foglights, indicating it is designed for sprint GT3 races.

Notes[]
