Audi is an automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt, Germany and founded in 1909. Before being acquired by Volkswagen Group, Audi was part of Auto Union. Currently the company is praised for their premium luxury saloons and sports cars.

In 1912, Audi was already active in motorsport with the Type C in the Austrian Alpine Rally. After relaunching the Audi brand, Volkswagen decided in 1965 to merge Auto Union and NSU into its brand along with Audi's other prior attainments Horch and Wanderer from 1932. 1985 saw the introduction of the S1 Quattro, which successfully continued Audi's rally heritage.

Another notable motorsport success by Audi is the Diesel powered Le Mans Prototype R10 TDI and its successors. Audi withdrew from prototype endurance racing in 2016; a plan to return under LMDh regulations in 2023 was replaced by a purchase of the Sauber Formula One team to prepare for the marque's participation in 2026.

The company first appeared in Gran Turismo 2, and has appeared in every mainline game since.
