A Prize Car is awarded upon completing certain events or reaching certain milestones during game progression. Prizes can be almost any vehicle appearing in-game, uniquely-coloured models, or even cars that cannot be acquired through conventional means. Prize cars are not awarded in Gran Turismo HD Concept and Gran Turismo PSP.

Gran Turismo[]

All championship events (excluding the Gran Turismo World Cup) will award the player prize cars if they completed the event first overall. Completing each license test with gold trophies will also award a prize. While the player can win another prize by winning the same event again, license test prize cars can only obtained once, meaning if the car is sold, it cannot be recovered unless repurchased using the memory card trade feature. Note that due to an in-game quirk, because the Dodge Concept Car from the B-License does not have a defined purchase or sell price, it cannot be sold.

For events with multiple prize cars, the primary prize car is awarded for the first (and subsequent odd-numbered) victory of the event, and the secondary prize car is awarded in the second (and subsequent even-numbered) victory of the events, and so on.

Gran Turismo 2[]

The award mechanics were slightly revised for this game. While retaining the ability to receive prize cars via championship wins or completing license tests, they can also be acquired by winning individual races of an event (excluding the Sunday Cup, the Clubman Cup, the Gran Turismo National League races, Rally races and one-make races). Like the previous game, the player can win a prize car by winning the same event again. For events with multiple prize cars, the reward is randomized (determined when the player crosses the finish line), and the GT300 and GT500 Championships, and the GT World League award prizes only after the entire championship series is won.

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec[]

The award mechanics in this game are similar to GT2, prizes being awarded through overall championship wins or completing license tests, and can be re-won multiple times. However, unlike the previous game, cars awarded in single race modes are given only once if the player wins all the races of the event.

The player does have control of influencing the awarded car for events with multiple prize cars, but contrary to popular belief, it is not performed by pressing a button during the "Congratulations" screen, but instead by frequently visiting the Options menu after the end of the race.[1]

Gran Turismo 4 Prologue[]

Rewards can be obtained by completing a license test in School Mode. Completing all of them in a sector awards the player a prize car.

Gran Turismo 4[]

While prize cars can be acquired multiple times like GT3. this requires clearing the event's progress, although this will not affect the number of races entered or victory percentage statistics. Players can still acquire cars by completing license tests, however there are now three cars to be won per course, completing it with all Bronze, Silver, and Gold trophies respectively.

Driving Missions can also award the player cars upon completion of each segment, but they can only be won once.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue[]

Prize cars are obtained by completing every race with bronze or better in each class. Completing all C-class races awards the Daihatsu OFC-1 Concept '07, all B-class races awards the BMW Concept 1 Series tii '07, and all A-class races awards the Nissan Skyline Coupe Concept '06, as well as unlocks the ending movie. The S-class races awards the Nissan GT-R Proto '05.

Gran Turismo 5[]

Unlike the previous games, prize cars are not won after a race but by receiving Tickets, which are redeemable in the Car Delivery section, and are only awarded once. It is also possible to receive car coupons by achieving certain milestones, such as the Birthday Gift Ticket, overall distance driven, and overall number of races participated in or won. Seasonal Events also award gift car tickets.

From version 1.07 onwards, cars worth 1,000,000 Credits and above (including those from Tickets) cannot be traded. Though this became moot when the game's online services were shut down, making birthday cars also no longer available.

Gran Turismo 6[]

The opportunities for acquiring a prize car mostly remain the same, though the gift car tickets were omitted. Players acquire cars by obtaining a certain amount of stars in the various classes of Career Mode, by achieving gold trophies in the Mission Races, by completing license tests, and meeting the requirements in some Special Events. When online services were still available, prize cars were also awarded in Seasonal Events if the player meets the requirements, as well as on the player's birthday.

Additionally, players can select the color of some prize cars before redemption.

Gran Turismo Sport[]

The mechanics for obtaining prize cars were reworked. Cars will be awarded upon completing a number of Driving School or Mission Challenge events within the adjacent row. Prior to January 31, 2024, when the online services were still operational, Daily Workouts also provided cars once per day upon reaching a mileage of 26.21 miles/42.195km each day. Random cars are also given this way by achieving gold trophies on Circuit Experience events, as well for completing a Driving School or Mission Challenge stage. Unlike GT6, the player no longer has control over the color (although the player originally had control over the color in the Closed Beta build).

The Audi R18 TDI (Le Mans 2011) is exclusively awarded through the Daily Workout and completion of a track's Circuit Experience. Additionally, none of the Mileage Exchange cars nor the Toyota GR Supra (Nürburgring '19 Livery) can be obtained from those.

The Driving School, Mission Challenge, and Lewis Hamilton Time Trial Challenge modes also provide prize cars for achieving a certain goal. The Nissan GT-R Safety Car is only available by getting all gold in Driving School, while the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo LH Edition is exclusive to players who have set Diamond times in the Hamilton Time Trial Challenge. Both of these cars can only be obtained once.

The player again receives a prize car on their birthday; however, unlike GT5 and GT6, the game will now award cars of any model year regardless of the player's birth year.

For vehicles with top-three position light indicators, such as modern LMP cars or LMGTE cars (such as Porsche 911 RSR (991) '17, Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 '10, and Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept '18), the first place position light is illuminated during the prize car selection process.

Gran Turismo 7[]

Prize cars are obtained by completing events along the GT Café storyline. Like previous games, the player can obtain prize cars by completing licenses with Bronze and Gold trophies, as well as the Mission Challenges.

The players can also win Roulette Tickets by completing GT Café collections and Daily Workouts. When a ticket is used, five items ranging from credits and tuning parts, to a car, are shown. These tickets now have a star rating on them; a higher star rating gives better possible bonuses. Four- and five-star tickets allow the player to earn Invitations, the right to purchase certain cars from the Brand Central, which is manufacturer-specific. Note that only cars purchasable from Brand Central can be obtained from tickets.[2][3]

Due to the way "variation" liveries for certain Gr.3 cars are made (these liveries are effectively built-in custom liveries, as if they were created with the Livery Editor), some Gr.3 cars may appear with incorrect liveries during the prize drawing screen. The livery issue appears to have been fixed in version 1.19.

Some menu books from GT Café added in updates awards the player with prize cars.
