Car Index (GT7)[]

"Powered by a naturally aspirated engine; the fair price and ease of handling are part of the allure of the S13."

In May 1988, the 5th generation S13 Silvia swept away the market share from the Honda Prelude and gained incredible popularity. It captured fans not just as a 'Dating Car', but also for being a fun to drive, compact FR.

The first and foremost reason for its popularity was its styling. Its refined coupé body was cutting-edge, and had a flamboyance that seemed to epitomise the buoyant economy. Of course its driving performance was another major factor. It was agile and sporty, and the price was affordable. This car met every need of the young generation in its day.

Initially, the engine was a 1.8 L CA18, which was replaced with the SR20 series 2.0 L, DOHC inline-4 in later models after a minor change. The premium K's model was turbocharged and produced 202.1 BHP and 28.0 kgfm torque, while the Q's and J's were naturally aspirated and produced 138 BHP and 18.2 kgfm torque. The front suspension utilised MacPherson struts, with multi-link suspension in the rear. A 4-wheel steering system called the Super HICAS was also available as an option.

Accelerating in the 1,170 kg, 202.1 BHP turbocharged K's was exhilarating, and due to the amazing balance of the chassis, drivers could truly feel connected to the road. There are many drivers in Japan who first learned what drifting is while driving this car. Another characteristic of the Silvia was that it had a huge following as a tuning base car. The CA18DET engine was very tough, and was able to withstand over 295.8 BHP when tuned. There was even a period of time where almost all cars parked outside tuning shops in Japan were S13 Silvias.

Used Cars (GT7)[]

This S13 Silvia Q's features a naturally aspirated engine. It proved a popular model among the speciality S13 designs. The multi-link rear suspension is one of several enhancements made to the undercarriage. Combined with the reliable power of an NA engine, the sturdy can handle even the most robust driving style.

Combining a light, compact body with a responsive rear-wheel drive chassis... And a peppy 1.8L straight-four engine—this S13 Silvia is one well-balanced FR sports car. Not only does it strike an elegant pose when parked, but it looks great tearing around a corner, too! Nowadays, these cars are really something special. In fact, the S13's best qualities are priceless!

Fabio Filippini[]

The fifth-generation Nissan Silvia was one of my favourite Japanese cars of the early '90s. A coupe of classic beauty—its lines were remarkably clean and elegant! It almost looked Italian in design. That low front, transverse light strip, bright cabin and slender tail... Everything in this car comes together in a perfect harmony of proportions.
