- For the model appearing in Gran Turismo 2, see Ford Ka '99
The Ford Ka '01 is a microcar manufactured by the Ford Motor Corporation from 1996 to 2021. The car was designed by Ford to be small, practical, and cost effective, optimal for operation in Europe's crowded cities. Therefore, performance has been sacrificed for ergonomics.
This microcar first appeared in Gran Turismo Concept and has been featured in all subsequent mainline games up to Gran Turismo 6.

Description[]
"A car with a distinctly modern feel, that emphasizes both utility and balanced driving."
Ford has a completely different image in Europe that it does in the U.S. The main reason is that it sells different cars, and while pickups and SUVs may be the norm here, over on the Continent the company specializes in small cars.
One such car was the Ka, probably one of the most unusual-looking cars to wear the Blue Oval.
The Ka was featured for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in 1996, based on another popular Ford in Europe, the Fiesta. The Ka was almost kei class in its dimensions with an overall length of 142.5 inches. It came in only 3-door hatchback form.
The styling was what's most noteworthy about the Ka. The term "cute" had often been used to describe its rounded body and distinctive face. The styling was executed by Ford designers all over the world, and reflected what the company called "new-age design". Under the Ka's short hood was a 1.3-liter inline-4 that produced 59 HP. It was coupled to a light body so the Ka displayed adequate punch from a standstill.
The Ka never made it stateside, but did enter the Japan market in 1999. It was popular initially, but because it was available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it was never able to surpass comparable domestic cars. Sales of the Ka stopped in 2001.
