In-game description[]
The new 2005 Ford Mustang was seemingly filled with a desire to return to its past designs. For example, the disposition and design of the rear quarter was obviously created to be reminiscent of the Shelby GT350. The reverse slant design with no regard for aerodynamics was undoubtedly an intense shout out to the longtime Mustang fans.
The body, the chassis components, and the engine were all newly designed, inheriting nothing from previous generations. As for suspension, it had strut coils in the front, and 4-ring coils in the rear. However, the implementation of independent suspension was passed up. The rear suspension design was a simple 4-link, with the upper link supporting the top of the differential case, lower trailing links to the left and right, and a panhard rod that positions the axle.
This design, resembling the stock cars of today, can handle strong torque well and is highly reliable, and has the extra merit of being low cost. It was a structure selected for its functionality and actual performance rather than merits on a spec sheet.
The standard engine was a 4.0L SOHC V6 providing an output of 199 HP, and the GT was equipped with a 4.6L SOHC V8 with 3 valves per cylinder. This V8 was a new design with a completely aluminum unit, and even with a SOHC design, the power was equal to the Cobra's DOHC on the old model.
Compared to the rival GTO that was given a European taste for exploring new markets, the 2005 Ford Mustang pushes the old school muscle car image.
