In-game description[]
The Taurus SHO is Ford's European-style mid-sized executive express. Although its a variation of the popular Taurus family sedan, the SHO is not a car for everyone. It is the only Taurus with a V8 engine, but that V8 is not one of Ford's more pedestrian 90-degree pushrod iron-block engines, or even a variation of the overhead cam "modular" V8. It's an unusual 60-degree vee engine, based on the 2.5-liter, 80-degree V6 found in the American Contour and European Mondeo. A balance shaft ensures smoothness. Production has always been limited by the complex assembly process, which sees castings made in a Ford plant in Windsor, Ontario, shipped to partner Yamaha in Japan for precision assembly. Yamaha then ships the completed engine back to the U.S. for installation in specially-prepared Taurus chassis. With 235 hp at 8100 rpm and 230 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm, the 3.4-liter dual overhead cam, 32-valve SHO V8 propels this front-wheel drive sedan reasonably quickly and very smoothly. The SHO has matured over the years, but recent recalibrations to its fully-independent suspension have enhanced its sporty side. Its more of a land-based business jet than a road rocket sports sedan - think high average speed in quiet comfort rather than apex-strafing and you'll understand.

Trivia[]
- The racing modification for this car originally resembled Mark Martin's #6 1999 NASCAR Cup Series racer, but this was changed to a more generic livery in the NTSC-U 1.2 and PAL versions of the game. However, the NTSC-U Arcade Mode disc was never updated with this change, and thus if the player selects a racing modified Taurus SHO from their Home Garage in Arcade Mode, the original livery will still appear.
- Even with the stock car-style body, there are some inaccuracies on the racing modification as the car features a working taillights and headlights, which stock cars usually lack. Additionally, the car's rear pillar windows are incorrect and the version included with NTSC-U 1.2 onwards uses a wheel from the Wheel Shop instead of a stock-car style wheel.
