Mitsubishi MINICA DANGAN ZZ '89

The Minica Dangan is a lively, 3-door lightweight runabout. The 5th generation, which debuted in 1989, switched from the sharp form of its predecessors to an audacious rounded design. Despite filling up Japan's 125.7 inches x 54.9 inches Kei car class size restriction to its very limit, that fact does not stand out because of the exquisite exterior design.

The Dangan ZZ is the sportiest of all Dangan models. The 548 cc straight-3 engine summons up 63 BHP and is crammed with the latest in technology.

The first mass-produced DOHC 5 valve head has three inlet valves and two exhaust valves per cylinder. Furthermore, it's furnished with an intercooler-equipped turbo and independent, electronic fuel injection for each of the three cylinders. A three point spray injection is utilised, so that an even amount of fuel is ensured for each of the three intake valves. Furthermore, the valve actuation rocket arms use Mitsubishi's distinctive roller system, and the balance shaft, water-cooled oil cooler, and an automatic valve lash adjuster all represent a cavalcade of technology not normally applied to 548 cc class cars.

Just looking at the specs, it may have 0.2 kgfm less maximum torque and 14kg extra weight than its rival, the Suzuki Alto Works, but it still accelerates faster than most 1000 cc class cars - utilising a 5-valve per cylinder engine that is a rarity even in the world of sports cars.
