Spoon CIVIC TYPE R (EK) '00

Spoon is a company specializing in the tuning of Hondas, and this Civic is built according to N1 regulations for endurance racing. Tuning of EK Civics started at Spoon in 1995, but with the release of the Type R in 1997, the level of the tuning reached new heights.

The development concept of the Spoon Civic is simply to make a fast car. Keeping the car lightweight, with good straight-line stability, and able to decelerate in a straightforward manner; fast laptimes are gained by balancing factors like these. Balance is key here, as raising just the engine power will strain and damages the transmission, and prematurely wear the tires. Their approach is to improve all parts in a gradual upward spiral to reach perfection.

While using parts conforming to N1 regulations, they worked to attain the highest output and endurance characteristics possible. The exhaust manifold and mufflers are built with a focus on light weight and durability. If it's the same shape, they would build it in the better material. If the material cannot be changed, the weight balance is moved towards the center of the car as much as possible. This Spoon Civic is a culmination of meticulous, detailed efforts like these.

As a result, the final weight of the car was reduced to 820 kg, and the B16B engine revs to 12,000 rpm, producing 215 BHP.

Because it is a N1 car with a very limited range of allowed modifications, an unbelievable amount of effort is expended, and nothing is overlooked in the production. And the data and techniques gained from this car, is what is fed back into street tuning cars of Spoon.
