"From dream to reality, the supercar concept developed by Citroën and Gran Turismo becomes a V8-powered mid-engine sports car."
―In-game catch text for the car, from GT7's car collection

The GT by Citroën Road Car is a road car produced by Citroën. Although it looks identical to the GT by Citroën Concept '08, it is completely different, being a car with an MR layout powered by a V8 engine. It appears in Gran Turismo 5, Gran Turismo 6, Gran Turismo Sport, and Gran Turismo 7.

In-game Description[]

"The GT by Citroën, unveiled in 2008, was a collaboration between Citroën and Gran Turismo. The car you see here is the road-going version of the concept. While the original study was powered by electricity, this one came equipped with a mid-mounted gasoline V-8. The body was penned by Takumi Yamamoto, a designer at Citroën. The lines of the car suggest the intricacies of Japanese samurai armor."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

The GT by Citroën is a concept car that was born from a collaboration between Citroën and "Gran Turismo". It drew much attention as soon as it was announced at the 2008 Paris Auto Salon, and the avant-garde design by Citroën designer Takumi Yamamoto was highly praised.

The super-sportscar came to life after numerous travels between Japan and France. Remade through "Gran Turismo", it went from a show model to a running model in this GT by Citroën Road Car. The major difference is that while the concept car was an electric vehicle with a high power motor, this road car is a midship sportscar powered by a V8 engine.

The armor-like styling of the car is almost as is, and the slits formed on the body between the rounded inner body and linear outer cowling worked effectively to cool and dissipate heat from the car. The car was already well-suited for a high power large displacement engine by design.

In addition, the replacement of the heavy, high capacity drive battery with a smaller gasoline tank has made the car much lighter in weight.

Because the engine room is not visible, completely covered by the rear cowl, it was relatively easy to secure rigidity at the rear end of the car and added to completing its supersport handling performance.

Trivia[]

  • This version of the GT by Citroën is the basis of the real life model, where both are V8-powered (powered by a 5.4-litre Ford Modular V8) and have a seven-speed gearbox.
    • Unusually for a car with paddle-shifters, it features a similar delay in shifting to most manual transmissions.
    • Only one model of the actual car has been known to be produced. Its whereabouts is currently unknown, and that there were originally plans to sell six examples. However, these plans did not push through likely due to the high costs of production.
  • Its specification in-game is inaccurate to the actual car, as the actual car has 646 horsepower and weighs 50kg less.
  • Its sound in GT Sport is recycled from the BMW Z4 GT3 '11, which is inaccurate from the actual car. The same is true for its Gr.3 and Gr.4 versions.
  • This particular version makes a non-Gran Turismo appearance in The Crew 2, as part of their "Elite Bundle 3" DLC, albeit with the Gran Turismo logos being removed, and that the specifications are almost identical to the electric-powered concept despite it featuring a V8 engine and a seven-speed gearbox.
  • The car in-game lacks the decals it comes with on the hood of the actual car.
  • On its GT Icons video, it is said that it can reach a top speed in excess of 340km/h (possible in GT5 and GT6). However, in GT Sport and GT7, it will reach nowhere near that speed, likely due to the drag produced by the diffuser.
  • In GT7, the Type A wing in GT Auto is based on its Gr.4 counterpart.
