Description[]

"Unveiled at the Gran Turismo 2023 World Finals, the first-generation Genesis Vision Gran Turismo is distinguished by an iconic two lines' brand identifier that links its quad lights and crest grille. Its cab-back layout positions the driver further aft of the vehicle. And, its proportion are representative of the entire Genesis lineup, making this cutting-edge concept car a manifesto of Genesis' Athletic Elegance design philosophy."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

Car Index (GT7)[]

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept emotionally applies Genesis’ Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The design orchestrates the cab’s backward proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory common to the entire Genesis model line-up.

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept design language is pure and muscular with the volumes centered around the wheels. It sports Genesis’ new front fascia that abstracts the crest grille and links it with the quad lights, structuring and connecting the volumes from front to rear with the two-line brand identifier. The fuselage extrudes itself towards the rear in an elliptical concave volume that can be found on other Genesis vehicles. It is framed by a rear spoiler and lateral trailing edges for aerodynamic high-speed stability.

The interior derives Genesis’ Beauty of White Space attitude by creating a purist environment for the pilot. The essential functions are prioritized to maximize track performance focus. The digital panoramic interface serves as information center linked to the surround digital monitoring system, while the steer-by-wire grip commands allow precise maneuvering. The quilted, padded bolsters protect the pilot while racing and during the speedy entrance and egress on pit stops. The X Gran Berlinetta Concept features an impressive aerodynamic fluidity.

The designers have achieved a drag coefficient of 0.34 by integrating aerodynamic aids and orchestrating internal and laminar flows. The X Gran Berlinetta Concept is powered by a front mid-mounted Lambda II V6 engine, electrically assisted by Genesis E-SC technology. The hybrid race-spec drivetrain delivers a total of 1,071 HP at 986 ft-lb (136.3 kgfm) of torque, ensuring that this car is as powerful as it is beautiful. The V6 screams at 10,000 rpm while delivering a maximum output of 870 HP and 790 ft-lb (109.2 kgfm) while the Yasa E-motor generates an additional 201 HP and 196 ft-lb (27 kgfm).

Development[]

It was first announced at the 2021 Monterey Car Week, although neither the marque nor Sony made any initial announcements relating to it or the series.[1]

When it was announced, it was revealed in three forms that could be viewed using augmented reality (it appeared on the event otherwise as a design sculpture) using a mobile phone: Alpha_DB, Bravo_GB, and Charlie_ET; all of them were designed after Le Mans Prototypes (the latter two also bearing some resemblance to the Aston Martin Vulcan '16) and also carry the "GR1" designation, suggesting that it was originally planned to be a Gr.1 car. These concepts also used the same livery pattern used by the G70 GR4 and the X GR3.

At the 2022 Gran Turismo World Series Showdown, an updated, finalized design for it was teased during the Genesis & Gran Turismo Trackside Talk segment of the show, although the segment was not uploaded to Gran Turismo's YouTube channel until September 22nd, 2022. A new teaser was shown again ahead of the 2023 Gran Turismo World Series World Finals weekend (held on December 1-3rd, 2023) on November 23rd, 2023, with the car's reveal taking place at the Manufacturers Cup portion of the event on December 2nd. The trailer shown on Genesis USA's YouTube channel also displays a racing version, resembling the Bravo_GB design (later revealed to be the X Gran Racer).

Trivia[]

  • The engine's aspiration is labeled as "TC+SC" (Turbocharger + Supercharger; formerly "ST" for Super Turbo in version 1.42) in-game due to it being twin-charged; this is due to it featuring a twin-turbocharged engine with an "electric supercharger" technology.
    • This makes it the first twin-charged Vision Gran Turismo vehicle.
    • It is also currently the only twin-charged vehicle in GT7, and the second such vehicle to be featured in the series.
  • Despite the displacement being labeled as classified, a Lambda II V6 would be a 3.3-litre engine at 3342cc.
  • Despite the description stating that it has a 10,000RPM redline, its redline is actually at around 8,500RPM.
  • There is a bug when the car was given from the GTWS Viewer Campaign event, where custom liveries may not apply properly on the preview thumbnail, or during the race.[3] As a result, the car ticket was redistributed again on January 30th, 2024.[4]
    • Several players also reported receiving the original tickets (on January 25th) from the Viewer Campaign twice.
  • A specially colored version (blue with gold rims) was later created in honor of Formula One driver Jacky Ickx, named Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Tribute,[5] followed by a demo run of the car (in Magma orange color) at 2025 running of the Bathurst 12 Hours race.[6]
  • Applying a custom color on the wheels in the Livery Editor will only apply the colors to parts of the wheel spokes, while the X Gran Berlinetta Tribute features fully painted wheels.
