Announced by Polyphony on May 2013, it was released 6th December 2013 for Europe, the Middle East, and North America. The game also featured microtransactions for in-game credits up until March 28, 2018.[1]

GT Academy[]
The GT Academy program, which attempts to invite Gran Turismo players into real-life motorsport, used the GT6 demo as a platform. The 2014 and 2015 editions of the event used the retail version of the game, both of which introduced new Nissan race cars (the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 Nissan GT Academy Team RJN '13 in 2014, and both the Nissan Zytek Z11SN Greaves Motorsport '13 and the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO '15 in 2015).
Players who played the 2013 GT Academy demo received the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 N24 Schulze Motorsport '13 as a reward.

Save Locking[]

Wash in progress... This section has the following things needed to be documented: Verify the claims further, this section was originally wall of run-on sentences that makes things even more unclear. You can help by editing the page. Be sure to remove the template when the to-do is finished. |
- The following testing was done with the physical/Blu-ray versions of the game only, with local accounts untied to a PlayStation Network account.
GT6 features two save files, a main save file that can be copied to a storage device for off-console backup purposes, and a backup copy that cannot be copied.
Save file detection prompt at startup having caught the player "trying to load another user's save data". Continuing will result in a new save to be written.
A photo showing that Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6 backup save data cannot be copied.
Main save files are tied to the account (local or PSN) where it was created. If the game, upon startup, detects the player's save file belongs to the original user account where it was created, the save will be accepted. (Loading with a different account on the same PS3 will not load the save and instead present the save deletion prompt.) If it was not the case, the game will refuse to load and attempt to overwrite the save with a blank slate instead. Quitting the game back to the XMB during the warning will prevent the save from being overwritten. (It is not clear if an exactly named local user with no PSN account tied on another console will result in the save being accepted.)
If a save tied to a PSN account was loaded, and the user logs on to PSN from another console with the same PSN account, the save will work on the other console. This is likely required for the cloud backup saves (a PlayStation Plus benefit) to work properly should the user changes console.
Trivia[]
- Many race cars that were available in Gran Turismo 5 have their name changed. Some received a minor name change (for example, losing the "Race Car" suffix), and others received a major name change (an example is the Peugeot 905 Race Car '92, referred to as the Peugeot 905B Evo 1 Bis LM '92 here).
- This game and Gran Turismo 2 are the only mainline entries in the series to not be held back by delays in its development.
- The number 6 on the game's cover is drawn in a similar style to the number seen on the rear wing of the Suzuki ESCUDO Dirt Trial Car '98.
- This is the first, and currently only, game in the series in which the player is allowed to choose the color of the prize cars.
- This feature was present in Gran Turismo Sport's Closed Beta, but was dropped in the final release.
- Credits are now capped at 50,000,000. In comparison, they were capped at 20,000,000 in Gran Turismo 5. However, the old cap is still present if the game's day one patch has not yet been installed.
- This is the first game in the series to not feature Used Car Dealerships since Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec.
- Instead, all Standard cars can be bought along with the Premium cars from a manufacturer's dealership. There are no levels to reach to be able to buy cars either, so as long as the player have the credits, they can buy every car in the game with no restrictions.
- GT6's Screen Quality settings consist of the following:
- Normal: a balanced presentation with screen tearing being the norm (always located in the upper side) that also comes with a better performance.
- Flicker reduction: V-sync (vertical synchronization) is engaged permanently at the cost of constant stuttering. Texture filtering is also dramatically improved.
- Sharpness: This option is designed to address blurriness when the player opts to use the 480i output mode of the PS3. It appears to do nothing when playing with HD signals activated.
- It is known that setting the PS3 system to output a 720p signal can deliver a substantially more responsive and consistent experience while playing the game.
The "mystery" car (left) from the PlayStation Europe "Celebrating 15 Years of Gran Turismo" video, later revealed to be a generic, off-the-shelf 3D sports car model.
- This is one of two games in the main series that has a Simulation/Gran Turismo Mode screen that moves (the other being Gran Turismo 4), the other games in the main series have a fixed screen.
- The GT Academy 2013 demo version of the game featured car categories (namely, mentioning the genre of a given vehicle), which, coincidentally, would make its official debut in Gran Turismo 7.
- Early demo/showcase versions of this game used the selection sound from Gran Turismo 5.
- In one of the pre-release promotional videos, titled Celebrating 15 years of Gran Turismo (posted by PlayStation Europe's YouTube channel), a then-unidentified midship sports car with taillights of the R35 GT-R appeared among the cars passed by a GT Academy-decaled Nissan GT-R. The car in that scene was later revealed to be a generic sports car 3D model (listed as "Generic Sport Car 2014") that was on sale on Hum3D, a 3D model marketplace.[3]
