In-game description[]

"F1 machines of the early 1990s were technologically simple yet radiantly elegant works of art. Gran Turismo's very own formula machine, the F3500-A was born from a deep admiration for this bygone era. Like actual F1 machines of the time, the chassis is made from negative molded carbon fiber. Running on a 3.5L naturally-aspirated V12 with pneumatic valves, it is capable of punching up to 15,000 revs. It has a 6-speed semi-auto transmission with paddle shifters and a pushrod suspension that follows he classic layout. The monocoque features a high-nose design with front wings that aren't underslung but rather spread out from the nose. Proving there's no end to the evolution of F1 machines, the F3500-A serves as a benchmark for what is possible."

Car Index (GT7)[]

The F3500-A is a Gran Turismo original formula machine born from a deep admiration for the early 1990s F1 cars.

Looking at its construction, the chassis is made from negative molded carbon fiber which was the style at the time. The suspension arrangement also uses a classic layout, featuring horizontally-mounted shock absorbers actuated by pushrods and bell cranks.

The power unit is a light and compact 3.5L naturally aspirated V12. Using pneumatic valves, it can reach 15,000 rpm, and variable length funnels on the intake system ensure ample torque across the rev range. The screaming sound of the exhaust at high RPMs is a unique quality of naturally aspirated systems that cannot be recreated with turbochargers. The transmission is a 6-speeed semi-automatic box with paddle shifters, which has been mounted laterally in order to avoid any interference with the shape of the rear diffuser.

Looking towards the aerodynamics, the monocoque uses a high nose design. Unlike modern front wings which tend to hand down from struts, this one uses an anhedral design where the wing spreads out diagonally from under the nose. There are several different wings, both front and rear, as well as engine cowl shapes available, allowing you to customize the car to your personal tastes.

Trivia[]

  • It, along with the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 '10 and the Gran Turismo F1500T-A, are the only cars added in content updates during the PS4/PS5 era games to contain fictional sponsors on the default livery.
  • The tachometer is similar to the one found in the Toyota GT-One (TS020) '99, which can also be found in the Minardi M192, as both used the same 90s Bosch tachometer display.
  • Some of the color options reference existing Formula One liveries from the car's period:
    • #1 references the Marlboro McLaren livery.
    • #2 references the white/blue color option from the Formula Gran Turismo and F090/S.
    • #5 references the Leyton House March livery.
    • #6 references the early 90s Ligier liveries.
    • #12 references the 1991 Jordan livery.
    • #13 references the Fondmetal livery.
  • It comes with a semi-racing exhaust by default. In the tuning shop, a racing exhaust can be purchased; installing it will alter its shape and sound without affecting performance.
  • The number font used is based on the font used for the number portion in most Gran Turismo titles' branding.
  • Removing the decals when prompted will not remove the base livery, as with the Nissan GT-R GT500 '99, the Ford GT Race Car '18, the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette Group 5 '84, the Volkswagen ID. R '19, the McLaren MP4/4 '88, and the Honda NSX GT500 '00.
