In-game description[]

"This go-kart-like vehicle is a Gran Turismo original. Equipped with a sequential 6-speed manual transmission and a capable engine, it behaves much like a formula race car. In fact, it can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h, depending on the gear ratio. Don't let its appearance fool you. This is one mean puppy."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

A tubular steel frame with simple mechanisms, and a small seat with a bare engine. From their looks, racing karts are often seen as the entry point to motorsports. However, in reality the name covers a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and there are those that are almost sub-formula cars. The Shifter Kart introduced here is one of those examples.

The Shifter Kart is basically the same as a standard kart, but the major difference is that it is equipped with a 6-speed transmission and front brakes. The 6-speed transmission is combined with a dry clutch, requiring the driver to operate the clutch when stopped, or after a spin. The shifting of gears is done by pushing or pulling the lever next to the steering wheel. Depending on the gear ratio the top speed can reach up to 200 km/h, so they are often raced on full-size automotive circuits.

The front brakes are installed to control this high speed range, but it is also possible to now change the brake balance from the front to the rear. This is used as a means to change control characteristics, and the car can now be set up with much more detail than a standard kart with only rear brakes.

This is a fully fledged race machine used to train top drivers. Drive and feel for yourself the level of performance that will change your image of racing karts.
