The Gran Turismo Rally is the fifth challenge series in the Special Events section of GT Mode, in Gran Turismo 5. Like most other special events, there are three difficulty levels to choose from, and each level has the player race three opponent cars on Dirt, Snow, and Tarmac rally courses.

Unlike the grid or rolling start of most regular-style races, these challenges have a each car start every ten seconds, single file, just like rally races in real life. Each car is timed across a set of control points, called "special stages". The objective is to complete all stages with the lowest total time.

Interestingly, these stages are automatically generated and are of varying lengths, usually between 1.5 to 8.5 kilometres long, guaranteeing that no two events will be the same. This feature ensures that the player must be focused at all times. Care must be taken while navigating these courses, as a 5-second, 50 km/h speed limit penalty will be applied if the player's car collides with the barriers alongside the track.

While most other Special Events provide a specific vehicle, in these challenges the player is free to use any car they please, as long as it meets the restrictions. Mainly, dirt challenges require Dirt Tyres, snow challenges require Snow Tyres, and tarmac challenges require Sport Soft tyres or less. The Advanced events however, require a purpose-built rally car to be used, and the tarmac challenge here accepts Racing Soft tyres or less.

Trivia[]

  • The description for the Snow challenge in the Beginner level event states it is limited to FF cars only. While all opponent cars encountered in the Beginner level will be sporty front-drive cars, this limitation does not apply to the player.
  • Prior to Spec II, it was possible to enter the Ferrari F2007 or Ferrari F10 to the Intermediate level tarmac events, provided the car has been detuned using the power limiter.
  • There are several unused pace note voice clips associated with the event within the game's files.
