Gran Turismo Test Drive
Gran Turismo Test Drive is a racing game made by Polyphony Digital, and it was the very first public demo of Gran Turismo 1 ever made. It was a game on the PurePure Volume 8 Demo Disc, Released only in Japan in 1997.
Gameplay[]
Gameplay in Gran Turismo test drive is very similar to gameplay in the fully released version of Gran Turismo. In arcade mode, all the cars from the normal Japanese version of Gran Turismo are there, but there are also lots of racing special tuned cars in arcade mode. In simulation mode, a good chunk of racing modifications looked different than the full release. Also, the player started with 300,000 Credits rather than 1,000,000 Credits in the full release Japanese version.
Trivia[]
- It is possible to force an 8 car race (13 in the night tracks); however, the cars loaded into memory at start of the race is still 6, and as such the extra cars will have darker textures.
- License tests are fully coded and functional in the game, but only the B-License tests exist. Even then, time limits have not yet been coded, and if the player goes off-track, the game simply issues a lap time of 59:59.99 instead.
- All LM race cars in this demo version cost 100,000,000 credits, rather than 50,000,000 credits in the final Japanese version.
