Gran Turismo 5 Front Cover

Gran Turismo 5 (also known as GT5) is the fifth mainline edition of Sony and Polyphony Digital's racing video game series Gran Turismo. Expanding on the Prologue version, released in 2007 and intended to give an impression of the final game, it is the first of the main numbered series on the PlayStation 3. The "Gull-Wing" Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG appears on the cover of all regional versions of the game.

Gran Turismo 5 features a number of licensed collaborations with the real racing series NASCAR, the World Rally Championship, and Super GT. It also includes a tie-in with the BBC motoring show Top Gear, featuring the 'Top Gear' Test Track as a driveable circuit. The total number of available cars grew to 1074 as of the release of the final car pack. New to the mainline Gran Turismo series are supercar manufacturers Ferrari and Lamborghini, with the game even featuring Ferrari's Formula One cars F2007 and F10.

For the first time in the main series, GT5 features an online mode with 16 player capability. The game features trophy support, for the first time in the series, and custom soundtracks. Mechanical damage makes a return from Gran Turismo 2, with visual damage appearing as well for the first time in the series. Weather effects and variable time of day are also included on a number of tracks.
