Gran Turismo for Boys is an unreleased title in the Gran Turismo series originally intended for a release on the PlayStation 2. Targeted towards a younger male audience, the game was announced in 2004 prior to the Japanese release of Gran Turismo 4.
Few updates on the title were provided in the years following its initial announcement. In 2013, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced the game was no longer in development.
Announcement[]
At a party held on 9 November 2004 to commemorate the completion of development on Gran Turismo 4, series producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed a new entry in the series tentatively titled Gran Turismo for Boys.[1]
Development on both Gran Turismo for Boys and Gran Turismo 4 Mobile was confirmed in a year-end message by Yamauchi to readers of Dengeki Online, although no further details on the game were revealed.[2]
Subsequent developments[]
News on the game's development would not be revealed until 2006, when Yamauchi stated the title was still in development in an interview with Famitsu at that year's Tokyo Games Show.[3]
Yamauchi further discussed Gran Turismo for Boys in a 2008 interview with UK video game magazine Computer and Video Games, attributing the game's lack of development to Polyphony Digital's focus on developing the yet-unreleased Gran Turismo 5. He further revealed the development team was "hoping to make [Gran Turismo for Boys] a feature within GT5,"[4] plans which were further confirmed in an interview with GameSpot UK.[5]
Cancellation[]
In a 2013 interview with GTPlanet, Yamauchi confirmed Gran Turismo for Boys was no longer in development but said that Gran Turismo on the PlayStation Portable was "a rendition of that idea."[6]
“ | Thinking about it now, even small kids, they are playing the full version of Gran Turismo! So, now, I think we don’t really need to make a special version of the game for them. | ” |
