In-game description[]

This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

Honda's Type R cars are famous for their power and handling. Following the NSX, Integra, and Civic, the fourth Type R is a 4-door sedan Accord, sold only in Europe. Its purpose is to increase the valuation of the Honda brand image.

The present Accord has a common platform, but a different body, for the Japanese, U.S., European, and Asian markets. Although the suspensions are all of similar design, they are tuned differently, with the European version the sportiest. Most of the equipment on the Accord Type R is similar to that of the Civic and Integra Type R. However, its purpose and image are somewhat different.

The Type R image in Japan and the U.S. is "race car for the street", with plenty of mechanical and exhaust music and a suspension tuned for maximum cornering, with comfort secondary. The Accord Type R is a sports sedan for a more mature driver. But that doesn't mean its content is all that subdued. The engine is developed from the Prelude's 2.2 liter DOHC VTEC four-cylinder. Balanced pistons and connecting rods, polished intake ports, and other internal enhancements help it develop 209 BHP at 7200 rpm, with very low exhaust emissions and useful power throughout its rev range.

The suspension is compliant and composed, and designed more for normal driving than ultimate grip. The Accord Type R is an attractive car for mature drivers with sporty flair.

Trivia[]

  • In the US version of the game, the first page of the car's description mentions about it being a Japanese model. However, the Accord Type-R was sold only in Europe, as it is based on the European model Accord; the description does mention this, however.
  • The car's racing modification features a DTM-style rear wing, similar to those used in the Toyota Altezza LM Edition.
